  • Anyone running a sub with monsoon double din?

I was at Soundsaround today, and got a quote for a custom fiberglass stealth box. I was going to put a JL W3 V2, with a JL E1200 amp. I am only looking to get a nice crisp base out of that mediocre monsoon system. Is there other stuff besides the JL I should be looking at, or should this sound OK? The amp is only rated at 120W RMS @ 4ohm, 200W RMS @2ohm, and the sub is rated at 300W continuous.

I don't know jack about car audio, and wanted some opinions.

FWIW, the guy who was going to do the enclosure for me is Shawn, and he drives a 1.8T with what looks like a Remus exhaust on it. Does anyone here know him, or know if he does good work with fiberglass?

i am curious about hooking up a sub and amp to the monsoon also...is it easy...i know someone on here told me that it kinda messes up the other speakers...but jsut some more punch would be nice...

No, I was in the NE, the one on 32nd Ave. It was a black 1.8T Golf.

Yeah, that's a minor concern of mine too. The monsoon boosts volume levels at higher speeds, and lowers volume when the car is at idle. I'll have to double check my owner's manual, and disable this feature so the mids and highs will stay balanced with the base. Hopefully it sounds good, or else I'm looking at rewiring the whole car to hook up an aftermarket HU.

Balancing the volume between the Monsoon amp and your aftermarket sub is tricky -- but it is definitely possible.

silverstoned i believe to disable the volume increase with road noise feature u hold down the dolby button right beside the tape deck.

Well, I have the monsoon system in my jetta and I went to a place that told me I would have to rip out the whole system because the way the monsoon system is configured, each speaker is amplified so there would be no way to put in a new sub because of the wiring. I am not that in to car stereo, but that's what the guy told me...I get really good bass out of my Monsoon, though, especially for a factory system. Good luck

Crisp Clean Sound from a JL? Yep. But they are super power hungry from my experience. Im not too sure on the w3s , but I was running 2 W6's off a 1200watt RMS amp and it was hardly enough. Maybe if you ran 1 10" w3 youd get it moving with the monsoon but personally, Id go with a 10" rockford H2E or whatever its called, I think it takes alot less to get them pumping.

I will be in touch. I had a house fire last night, so I'm not sure how my finances are going to be for the next little while. Hopefully I can scrape up some cash before you sell them to someone else. What kind of amp? Will you sell the subs seperately? I'm only interested in a single 10" for the stealthbox.

Just build a fiberglass box into the drivers side cubby hole and you will have more then enough space for a single 10". I did the same but it was bigger since it was 2 12's.

Hmmm, I take it you have a Jetta? I have a GTI, and there isn't really a driver's side cubby hole. There is the small panel where the monsoon amp and CD changer go, but It doesn't seem like there is nearly enough airspace in there for an amp, much less a 10" sub. Do you have any pics of your install?

Nope I have a golf. I used the space where the monsoon amp and changer is on your car I guess. I calculated the space in there to be aprox .7 cu Ft or so. As for a picture look in this thread Linky

Wow, that looks awesomme! Did you do the work yourself? If not, where did you get it done? That has to be one of the nicest installs I've ever seen (especially suits what I'm looking for in an enclosure.
