Honestly, there is enough information on this on the Internet. Do some searching. People aren't going to spoon feed you.

      Re: Help with mk1 project

Your plans seem pretty grand, and it is not meant to tell you that you can not do it, bit it is allot more then wiring for a aeb swap. An 020 tranny will grinade very quickly and allot has to be bought orr fabbed to make it work. You say the car is for your parents so why not just build a strong aba bottom end engine and run the 8 vslve and just do all of the maintenance items like brakes, bushings and clutch . Any care that is over 10 years old is supposed to have a safety upon transfer of ownership.

Two things I would not do:

        1. I would not do a project like this on a deadline. It takes however long it takes to do it right.

        2. I would not do everything all at once. Your list is too ambitious. Just do 1 thing at a time as a project, then re-evaluate.

If I was going to take on this project, it would probably be a 2-3 year project. Not to mention the amount of money that is going to be spent sorting things out.

Maybe you should map it out using Microsoft Project or if you don't have it use OpenProj: http://sourceforge.net/projects/openproj/

Break the whole project down into smaller projects and set scope, budget, and timelines for each part. IMHO your goal and timeline seems too aggressive and not too well thought out. I have done enough work projects in the past and know that this method also applies to projects outside of work. I am sure others will agree.

toplessvw is correct. repair the basics, ABA. i would consider myself a mk1, mk2 and mk3 guru and i'm telling you that your vr6 ambition is way over your head. i suspect the 1.8t would be as well. if you want a vr6 cabrio, buy a mk3 and swap it in. i would never swap a vr into a mk1 unless it was a show queen. so never lol.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

Thought about it... AEB will go over my budget because I need to quite a few parts for the engine although it bolts straight up. Since its my first engine swap project I think I should go for a easier swap just for the time sake and cost effectiveness, how's this car as a donor? http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ493082669 asking because it has an auto while the Cabrio has an 020 manual, can I still run the donor car's ecu if I'm running a manual?.

What engine is in that Jetta? I think you have it stuck in your head that you want to do an engine swap. Skip the swap and use the money towards making the Cabrio super clean. You can do the swap later down the road.

Ummm... The cabby is $250 with no engine..... 8v 2.0 obd1.
Checked the cabby last night and the exterior has almost no rust, some paintwork is needed for sure though, interiorwise it needs seats which I can use the front seats ones the mk3, has a new heater I think, no accidents, needs a top and trunk lid support shock. I think it's a bargin at $250.

so you ask for a guru's advice, and then ignore it? don't make me be the guy who has to tell it to you like a man. if you think a vr6 is an easier swap into a mk1, then good luck with your project lol...is the nicest way i can say what everyone is thinking. sorry kid.

Ummmmmm.... I never said a vr6 is easier, in fact I know it's much harder than an aba... I am taking your advice going with the aba. I'm not doing the vr6 for sure.

Edit: I will be doing some research and planning for the aba engine install for the next few days and I will change the original post to avoid confusion.
