  • FK coil overs

I was wondering how ride quality is affected with the FK highsport coilover kit. I mean I know it would be a little rougher and stiffer, but like how much rougher and stiffer?

There is no way for us to tell you this in just words. How would we describe it? Ride quality is very subjective. Some people find the ride acceptable with springs and shocks like rocks. Other people can't bear for the ride to be worse than stock.

Keep in mind that Coilovers will never ride as nice as Springs + Shocks for a given height. If you only want a little bit of a drop, you may be better off with a spring/shock kit. I would only advise coilovers if you plan to go really low.

      Re: FK coil overs

I think Id like to be able to raise and lower the car at will, I think thats a great feature. But I dont really know how often I would do so. . . . but really all I want to do is get rid of the wheel gap. Just outta curiousity, how much does a set of springs and shocks usually run? What are some good combinations?

      Thanx a ton!

i think FK has a spring/shock kit (cupkit) for $700 at concept1, alot of people around here have done the bilstein shocks with H&R race springs (2" drop, still awesome ride) but thats over $1000 because the shocks are so expensive. only a few coilovers in the club because a) they're so god damn expensive, and b) the ride is very harsh and low.

I scrape everywhere I go with my body kit and 2" drop. i wouldnt want to be any lower for everyday use.

Simon L did a sort of informal comparison during our cruise. I think he liked the H&R Cupkit the best, and you can find them for not too much more than the FK. However, the FK is less expensive and is fairly good.

The very best (most expensive) setups would be with either Bilstein or Koni adjustable dampers, and some brand name, quality springs (which springs you get mostly just changes the height).

If you do get coils, it will look great in the summer if you drop them low, drive slow and stick the the flat roads

I have some FK Silverline coils waiting to go on my car. I chose them based on the fact that I want a big drop in summer and raise them up during winter. The ride will porbably be fairly harsh, but will it ever look tight

                Re: FK coil overs

I've got the FK Highsports on my car and I am completely happy with them. The ride for me is definately stiffer (as you would expect - that's the price of improved handling) but I wouldn't call it harsh. Some roads where you've got fairly low frequency undulations (eg John Laurie east of Charleswood) is a bit tough but the higher frequency stuff (eg washboard crap on gravel roads) is actually better than on my stock suspension. You will have to take it easy on speed bumps and on driveway curbs - but then again, I think you will have to take the same precautions with any aftermarket suspension.

                  Re: FK coil overs

i totally agree with simon that anything more than 2.0" drop is too low because i have trouble trying to not scratch the bottom of the car when i got my kit installed with stock suspension...

i only have a 2.slow and i am not a race car driver so, i am doing the lowering springs only. but a question i have is how is the adjustability of the coilovers? ie. how high can it be adjusted in winter??

                    Re: FK coil overs

most coilovers when set to the 'highest' setting are still a 1.5" drop from a factory setting so your still low

                      Re: FK coil overs

Adjusting is as simple as turning some threaded lock rings to the desired height. My fronts seem to be able to be set much higher than the rears. I'm pretty lazy so I haven't bothered raising it for winter and you're right about the kit, me not having one has probably saved me some scraping.

I'm getting my tax return soon, and want to buy the FK spring/shocks from C1, but would like to ask for some help installing them, Maybe if someone else gets some we can do a drop day or something, cause I'm itching to be lowered...and for the price $550 -10% I can't go wrong.....and I'm sure some of you who have already experienced this would know what to do and where! Please and Thanks!
