  • Silverstone grey GTI respray

So the GTI is in the shop getting some body work done. After figuring out how much things will cost and how much work needs to be done, looks like I am going to get a full respray done. I don't want to change the color of it completely but I was contemplating maybe going a little darker or more metallic. The guy doing the work suggested that he would put bigger metallic particulates instead of MORE metallic in there as it would make it lighter.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks..

    No!

Do NOT do custom flakes, if something happens, dent, ding or accident they will never match it perfectly again. Instead look through the paint books for a color that is close to what you want that has an OEM paint code so it can be matched in the future.

This! Calgary has far too many rocks on the roads and bad drivers to risk spending the money on a custom paint job on a daily driver. Go with a sick OEM color that can be easily touched up in any case you need to. I think you'll be happier in the long run!

Awesome thanks for the feedback. Any suggestions on oem Greys? I like the platinum grey, not sure how it would look on the gti. Or carbon grey like the mk6?

The Audi TT Aviator Grey is a great color. Paint code for that one is LZ7W

There was a thread a few months ago discussing different grey colors. If you find that thread, you may get some good ideas. All I remember is that Lotus has a very nice agressive looking grey which would look great on your GTI!

IMO Platinum Grey was the best grey VW ever made. I have a Universal Grey Mk5 and it's just blah. I can spot a Platinum Grey a mile away. It just stands out.

agree. My neighbors TDI Sport is PG and I love seeing it when nice and clean. Very nice color!

                            Aviator grey is also great.
