  • 2.5" Jetta 1.8T Cat-back opinions

    hey guys,

i am currently looking around for a 2.5" cat-back exhaust. i would like something that is not too loud, give reasonable performance, and is cheap. my budget is less than $1000. i would like some opinions on what you guys are running and what your opinions are.

i was also wondering if $1040cdn for a supersprint 2.5" ss is a reasonable price (thats whats available at autobraun)? how about the brullen 2.5" and fk exhaust at c1?

    thanks,
    eric.

Got Concept1 to mate a FK 2.5" Golf SS exhaust to my brullen downpipe.

      $550 for the exhaust
      $180 for the special welding
      $70 for the install.

Yea, I like my Brullen cb. Looks good, sounds good, and C1 had them for 20% off a while ago.

brullen looks good, but i doubt its as efficient as some of the big names out there.. TT and GHL for example.

Personally I would try to have one custom made. That way it is definitely going to fit perfectly and look exactly how you want. You should be able to find a place that will mandrel bend 2.5" exhaust pipes to fit the underside of your car. Then you just get a high performance muffler and you're golden.

If you're dead set on a pre-made exhaust, you should decide what is most important to you. Looks? Performance? Sound? OEM-like-fitment? There is no one "best" choice for these things. As Simon mentioned TT and GHL have good reputations for best performance. Brullen/Remus are best known for looks I would say (though they may perform better than stock). I have heard good things about the Eurosport and Autotech exhausts. Milltek does well on Vortex.

We don't have a lot of experience here, so what people are telling you is really second hand knowledge (mostly).

My next exhaust is Miltek. I want damn quiet!! A few buddies of mine out here have Brullen 2.5" cat-back and they say it's great and would reccomend it. Plus if anything mechanically goes wrong with it, you can return it hassle-free. They've got a great warrantee system!

                Re: 2.5" Jetta 1.8T Cat-back opinions

thanks for all the advice guys...

so what i am really looking for are the following:

                1) i want a quiet system
                2) decent gains, so 2.5" and ss for sure
                3) looks don't really matter to me as long as it fits
                4) decently priced....less than $1000cdn.

so my choices so far are:

                1) brullen 2.5" ss from c1 - $935-10%=$842cdn. i would like to know how quiet this system is..compared to stock, and decent gains??

                2) tt 2.5" ss from pgperformance - $854cdn. does anyone on the board have a tt exhaust? i heard they are a bit noisier...but by how much? and i know they give decent gains.

flanders, you mentioned that you want a miltek exhaust b/c its quiet. where can you get one and for how much? do they have decent gains?

                thanks,
                eric.

                  Re: 2.5" Jetta 1.8T Cat-back opinions

I have a TT exhaust. Here is what I can tell you.

                  1) If you're lowered, it will not fit very well. At least mine didn't.
                  2) It is more than 'a little noisier'. It is the measuring stick for loud.
                  3) It gives good performance gains.
                  4) Mine came with no tips at all, so you need to buy these extra

The Brullen is a bit louder and much deeper than stock. Not offensive though.

Other options you can get nearby are FK, Magnaflow and Supersprint.

Good information from Kor =) Ive been looking for a catback since last year. I decided with FK because it was a little cheaper, good quality, and only a couple people have it specially made for a Jetta =)

If I did it all again, here are some things I would do differently.

                      1. Look at a totally custom exhaust. This way you know it fits.
                      2. If I didn't get a custom exhaust, I would get it installed by a custom exhaust shop.
                      3. I would get a muffler with twin pipes coming out the back.
                      4. I would get a system where the tips look really blingy and shiny as hell.
                      5. I would go wider than 2.5 if I could, since I don't mind the noise much.

I would also make sure it was held by someone like this:

                      ...but thats just me.

I know that nearly all of the aftermarket exhaust manufacturers use 3 inch dual tips on their 2.5 inch catbacks/turbobacks.
Has anybody ever seen dual 4" tips on the back of a MKIV??
Just wondering what it would actually look like and if very much modification was needed??

I have 3" tips and they just barely fit into the valence cutout... so 4" tips would not fit. You'd need to make your own cutout, or have them hang below the valence.
