RobG Hitch - Passat Variant Edition

In the process of getting a hitch installed in my Passat. RobG built a solid hitch, and it's all in. It needs a little extra support added so the variant bumper can take weight on the top sill, but I'll get that sorted out. So far the hitch is in and looks great.

we are not sure about the need to step on the bumper. But yea i love my rob hitch

I kneel on that bumper quite a bit when loading up the back of the car, and with kids, it's frequent. If the kids get something out of the car, they defiantly put weight on the bumper as they pretty much need to crawl up an is to get anything. Dog hops on it too to get in.. Currently, it flexes a lot when I lean on it. It is fairly rigid, but only because of a single screw on the bottom side. If I remove that screw, it moves a lot. I don't like the idea of one screw in a plastic bumper holding weight. I'm sure I could just be careful and it would be fine, but hoping we can come up with a quick fix.

*I've moved some big stuff in this thing. A full wood bunk bed c/w two mattresses in one load, La-z-boy loveseat, bulky digital piano, misc other furnature, etc.... Especially when stuff is heavy, it's hard to lift things out without hoping in the back of the wagon. Either the load, or myself ends up on that bumper at some point.

We managed to fit the original re-bar onto the hitch, now you can ride on the bumper like a fire truck!

Turned out so nice! I'm pretty happy.

Also got to try out a plasma cutter - very cool tool!
