haha yea dude it looks great i was just razzin you cuz i'm jelous
i can't wait for ours to get fixed/reshipped and back to us so we can install it.. did you do it yourself or dealer?
i'm guessing 2-3 hours labour.. it should only take max 1 hour with a vag-com aslong as you don't have issues like bart and I did. oh conrad you can buy the stalk/sensor kit from the dealer.. kris bought his from one i think its like 200 bucks or something
what do you mean they couldn't reset the vin on the cluster?
TDI club has a list of part numbers compiled by SVTWEB, the guy who pioneered this whole swap thing. Should be easy to get.
Man those parts are such a rip off from the dealer. I'm going to hunt around for a german junkyard source that'll be able to get these for cheap. It's gotta be possible. Those german junkyards are such goldmines for those oh-so-euro parts that we all lust after.
That being said, the dealer charged me just over $80 to do it. So like just over an hour. 2-3 hours would be outrageous! As for the VIN thing, my cluster now has a different VIN than my car, they couldnt reset that. Oh well. I mean, I bought it from a guy in germany (probably the same guy that Bart did the GB with) and it had zero km on it, but a vin number. All this means is that somehow, some crazy german electrical engineers have figured out how to reset odometers on our cars. Very cool.
For fun, here are the part numbers for stuff:
Wiper Stalk with MFA toggle - 4B0 953 503G
Connector for Stalk - 893 971 636
Temp Sensor - 1J0 919 379A
Clip for TS - 1J0 971 845E
Housing Connector for TS - 1J0 973 702
Besides that, you just need some wire repair kits. The thread on TDIclub has all the p/n s for you. I just lost the bookmark and dont feel like looking it up. The only expensive pieces there are the temp sensor itself and the stalk. THere's gotta be a way to get them cheaper.
Oh, and taking it to the dealer is a good idea since they'll stamp your service manual saying that the cluster was replaced and that the mileage is legit. Good idea for future resale.
