  • What to do with accident money

This is where I would like to be soon enough, although I might have to either hold off on, or do replica sides.

I've been scrounging around for some decent deals, and my money can get me front and back, but apparently there is some guy in Toronto selling replica kits, and one guy says the front is better than oettinger, he replaced the oettinger with the replica after breaking it and says its been better, although fittment sucked.

    get replica sides.

why do you need strong sideskirts when you dont hit anything with the side of your car?

Where do you get the replica stuff? I'm thinking I might go with Caractre this coming summer if I can get the cash. Oetty has always been a fave though. It'll look good nick.

Some guy in Toronto makes them, the nice thing about his is that full kit shipped here, is 900 bucks CDN thats front, sides and rear. The only complaint I have heard about this guy is that the sides fitment kinda sucks. Well so does the front and rear, but that is more easily corrected. I think I might have to go for it. I would only save like 150 bucks not getting the sides cause of the full kit deal kinda thing, so I might just buy it all and not use the sides if they suck, sell them on vortex kinda thing lol.

No you don't but its damn cheaper, he sent me the breakdown, and cause kits are made to order, its wayyyy cheaper to buy as a whole. I might be convinced to sell the sides though.

But I dunno, seems to be decent quality stuff, if anyone else would like to join me in my info search his name is Zarman on the 'tex. Known especially for Corrado stuff.

Nick, I guess you weren't at the last club meet....There is a new NVD rule that says no two of the same kits are allowed jk

Seriously though, if the fitment sucks, then the kit will suck. If you choose to buy Oettinger, at least buy the real deal for the full Oetti front. That bumper requires cutting and shaping to fit, so you don't want a crappy fitting piece that you'll be stuck with cuz its grafted into your bumper .

Oetti on a GTI is definitely a hot look though.....

But my $.02 is to do this......

Re: What to do with accident money

i have the otty kit and the fitment is not very good... (that is what the guy in the body shop told me) "i don't know anything about cars....

i have found that without lowering the car, the front numper is already inconvienent enough.... (too low?)... but hey, it looks nice!

yeah, and the sides, they are quite expensive and i think if you lower it enough, the sides are nice to have but not necessary... the front piece makes the biggest difference!! (it is nice to drive around and get praise from strangers )

i will definitely get the sides and grill too save on labor...

but then my car is not show quality... there you go!

Re: What to do with accident money

I read that body shops expect the fitment of body kits to be poor. They are used to it, because so many suck. When a kit with OEM-like fitment comes in, they are surprised.

Since you will probably be charged based on an up-front estimate, what difference does it make? The body shop won't know how bad the fitment is going to be in advance.

Re: What to do with accident money

I'm still looking into options, but I can do all this myself, if it fits poorly, then I invest more of my time into it till it fits perfectly, and well, I have alot of time. People have nothing bad to say about this replica, and I have found 6 people, only one complained, but he seems to be a moron. So I'm really tempted, another option I am looking at is the MSD R32 kit. Cause its urethane, and they sponsor the bodywork forum. So that another option for me.

I also am looking at a full R-RX kit, so many options. I'm not particularily leaning towards the R32, cause I can't use the sideskirts cause I'm a 4door
