  • MK4 rear shocks - which is best?

I need new rear shocks so I've been looking at some options and all the prices seem to be the same for new ones. What's the best option for a soft but not bouncy ride?

    - KYB AGX adjustable (KYB 743029)
    $190 / Pair

    - Koni Yellow Adjustable (80-2859SPORT)
    $200 / Pair

    - FK rear adjustable (Same as Konis?)
    $220 / Pair

    - Bilstein Heavy Duty (HD) (24-026239)
    $190 / Pair

    - Bilstein Sport (24-026246)
    $190 / Pair

I've got fk (sports?) on mine. Non adjustable, i didnt know they made adjustable ones. They rode good for about the first month then started to get a bit rough. They arent blown though. I'm gonna look into the kyb's or koni's next.

The shocks should match your springs, so go by whatever springs you have....

This. But I think adjustable ones will work too.

the only way your shocks should match your springs it their travel...
ie if your running coils all the way down its a good idea to get a shock that can handle that travel..
if you dont believe me go to ecs' site and look.. they sell many different spring/shock combos with different brands..
other than that its whatever tickles your fancy..

ive been in mk4's with KYB's, FK's and Bilstien's, would recommend the bilstien sport out of those 3. but yes, make sure the shock works with the spring/coilover/airbag youre running or the shock will be blown and leaked out if its not rated to go as low as you run.

I had FK shocks and Bilstein sports on my Jetta and I honestly couldn't tell the difference. The Bilstein's might have ridden a bit better but it wasn't a crazy difference. The Jetta was on air ride and I drove fairly low most of the time.
