  • My new to me GLI

So a week ago I picked up a 2012 GLI. The only thing I found odd was that I get a "check license plate lighting" error when I turn on the lights. I have checked several times and both left and right license plate bulbs are working. Did the previous owner use some cheap Chinese LEDs or is this a common problem with the MK6s?

Congrats on the new ride!!! Are the plate bulbs LEDs because they can throw codes if not set up properly with resistors from what I recall.

^ more than likely this. You'll want the "error free" Festoon lamps.
I usually suggest getting them from http://www.superbrightleds.com

Re: My new to me GLI

Thanks guys. That's what I thought. I had some Ziza LEDs from ECS for my MKIV and my friend has LEDs from SuperbrightLEDs in a MK5 with no problem. Looks like I will be ordering proper ones this week. I did notice this morning that one of the license plate LEDs was off colour and dimmer than the other one. This leads me to believe they are the cheap ass ones from fleaBay causing the problem.

Once the weather gets better I will post some pics.
