I think in the case of safety the legality becomes quite important. If you get rear ended the other person's insurance company could find you responsible due to your tail lights. This could void your insurance as well...kind of important if you ask me
In the end its the owner of the car that decides how dark to go and if its worth the risk if something should happen.

And the exact same thing would happen if someone with modified headlights was to Tbone a car turning in front of them. If the insurance found out the headlights were illegal (again doesnt matter if they improve or decrease visibility), that person would be up sh!t creek. When it comes to the legality, you're preaching to the choir here.
Modified Headlights: Not DOT approved - Illegal (This includes HID's in halogen housings AND retrofit projectors)
Disabling DRL's - Illegal
Tinting front windows - Illegal
Doing certain suspension modifications - Illegal
Tinting Tail lights - Illegal
Should I go on? Perhaps we should all just follow the law and have each one of our cars looking exactly the same so that we are good citizens. Again its up to the person doing the modification to understand the consequences of their actions, not for the internet police to be giving out "warnings"

I think what Sean and I are getting at is that over tinted tail lights can be a serious safety issue, the others are much less so. Nothing would be worse than driving in fog, or flurries (which are super uncommon in Southern Alberta...) and have the car behind you not be able to see you braking in time.
I am personally also not a huge fan of over tinted front windows because as a cyclist it is scary not being able to make eye contact with a driver but that is personal.
again ^^^ amazing, but bottom line is, you have 2 options...well 3...actually 4
You could wrap them so they are for sure consistent - you can peel it off too
You can have VHT nightshade done - i can offer help - it can also come off and you can look at mine for reference first, you can also manage darkness as you go
You can do nothing
You can buy already tinted tails
haha thanks for all the input guys, i think ill give jeff a pm and see what he can do because i just want the light smokey look so it matches my car a bit better when i get the carbon stuff (:
