  • Baby Half Moon's on MK4

hey guys, so came accross a pic of a MK4 with some baby half moon steelies with white walls the other day - looks classy, and very original. Anyone had any luck retrofitting a chrome center calp (half moon cap) onto the OEM 16" steelies? Link below (shitty pic, but all I could find).

similar, but not quite, plus they are 5x112 and would rather not go through the hassle of paying almost $2000 without tires for those wheels, then buying adapters + tires. Had those priced out a few times recently, a bit too pricey.

They're cool but they seem too thin for a MK4?

the ones on my link are 15x8, not too thin at all if spaced correctly. I'm hoping to find someone who is willing to help me engineer/retrofit a set of 6" or 7" VW beetle caps onto the 16" oem steelies. Should be tricky, but I'm sure someone out there like myself will be willing to accept the challenge - & the cash lol.

take some of these bolt covers, make a frame for them to attach them all together and jb weld them secure, then extend the frame out to the back of the new cap?

            http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-..._Bolts/ES4979/

Might also be possible with shortened bungee cables if you put rings on the back of the caps?

I was thinking that as well, however I didn't think JB Weld would suffice for mounting the frame to the lug caps... Let alone, attach the fabricated frame to the center caps. Do I sense some interest in this project? haha. I pay in cash, beer, or both for fabrication help! Right now, it's just an idea I'm debating. Looking for originality, and all in all - I think this would be it.

I saw those as well lol, I prefer the half-moon style over the full-moon. Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe that guy lives in Vancouver... looks very similar to a guy out there with a Rootbeer Brown Pearl GLI, but I believe it's now on gloss-black Aristo's.

I think you can buy a wheel called Leadsleds that looks like that. But they are kinda pricey.

                    Other option?

These seem to just pop into steelies

Sorry zero interest in this type of project, i would only put this type of work into my own car, and unfortunately don't think this style would suit my car in the least

That car is sexy as hell. Would have to be a dark colored car for sure though.

I actually saw those, but the OEM MK4 steel wheel has a weird flared-out lip on them, doubt they would fit, still doing research lol.

No worries man, your opinion vs mine, I respect that. I'm going to research this a bit more, and see what my options are. Thanks for all the input!

Maybe you could grind the lip down?

These are sold but this is what you are looking for I think "Mooneyes":

I've got a PM sent to someone off DasDubbers who previously had half-moon's on a MK4 (thanks Colin) so we'll see where that gets me!
