  • Boser styles

I've seen some boser hoods and I like the "slight" boser type.

I'm just not knowledgeable about them at all. I've seen "sleepy" and "angry" boser hoods, ones that seem to curve down and ones that are straighter.

I've seen full hoods and hood extensions. I've seen carbon fiber, metal and ABS hoods and hood extensions

Can someone give me a quick run down? What works? What doesn't work? I know some people hate them too, I'm not shy about the negative comments either, tell me if you hate them!

Someone local has a carbon fiber extension for sale, how do the extensions get "glued"?

I like the ones in these pictures, not sure about what type they are.

I really like them, makes the car look mean. Here's a picture of my buddies Jetta, Hood is carbon fiber.

      Re: Boser styles

Back in the day I would have said absolutely. There were a million modded Mk4's in my day and a boser hood was a great way to stand out. Plus you could fill the hood notch and badgeless grills were all the rage. Lastly there weren't many good headlight options so people did the boser rather than OEM HID (which was outrageously priced) to make the headlights look good.

But now that I'm older and wiser... and the Mk4 has aged too....

Its better to follow the classic look rather than trying to just do anything different to stand out. I wouldn't do a boser on a MK4 now, I think it has that played-out ricer look, like you're trying too hard. The best Mk4's that have stood the test of time focus on the essentials like wheels, stance, ride height, and clean lines.

If a Mk4 has the chrome rub strips its even harder to justify the boser IMO. Looks best with that votex bumper on older Jettas.

Always love a good boser hood. I bet the cheapest option is the carbon hood with built in boser. Then if you don't like the carbon look paint it.

The weld ons would be expensive if you can't do it yourself. It means getting a shop to weld or glue a piece on, then smooth/mold/sand, then paint your old hood which means more shop time to smooth, get the rock chips out, sand prep etc.

I think there are a lot of things that should be done to a car first though to make the boser fit in.

Bosers look best on MK3's though.....
