Gas Cap Light

So, that odd Gas Cap Light came on last night, seen it once before, but it went away not long after.
Checked the Gas Cap, seem's ok? Always fully click the cap 4-5 times when closing... What else could it be?
Light is still on, not sure how long it takes the computer to re-set its self, but hopefully it goes out. Could it be the cold?

im not sure if you have the same style gas cap as me. i dont have the electric door popper, i have the actual locking cap. Anyways, last winter my light used to come on all the time(its probably the cold) as long as its tight and locked it shouldn't be too big of a deal. more of just an annoyance.

That's what I was thinking... The actual performance of the car has not changed at all. I however, DO have the door popper w/o the locking cap. After close inspection of the cap, everything seems to be ok. I guess I will give it a few days, maybe check tomorrow since I think it should be a bit warmer. Thanks for the input!

And yes, is quite annoying, I can't STAND CEL's lit up on my dash... Pet peeve of mine I guess.

Sorry about my ignorance but there is a gas cap light on a mk4?? Afte 4 years of owning one i have never seen this light, i was always under the impression that it was simply a check engine light that would appear. Could you post up a picture for us? Thanks

Sean, no worries! I could be wrong, but putting two and two together - this seems to be the Gas Cap Light.
It is the only light that is currently on, no standard CEL - just this.

yup thats the same light i got. do you need to stick ur ingnition key into the gas cap? thats what i meant by locking cap. i didnt think the mk4's with the popper didn't have the locking cap.

Nope, no lock on the cap its self. Just the locking/popper fuel door.

Thanks for the picture, never seen it in my life before haha. Might it have something to do with the fact that your cap clicks 4-5 times? Mine clicks once, and once only.

Interesting... Anyone else care to shed some light on this? I didn't think it wasn't normal for the cap to click more than once, never had an issue on any other vehicle with that. If it stays on, worst comes to worst I will just replace the fuel cap - seem's to be the culprit 9 times out of 10.

Ask a friend to swap gas caps with you for a few minutes, then start up the car and see if it goes away?

That was my plan, however does the computer not take some driving time to re-set before the light would disappear?

you need a new gas cap or the fill neck valve is out of place. vag com can test you evap system.

over the past 10 years I have yet to see anyone have this light, very interesting.
