Hybrid Oil Pan

Bored at work doing some research in regard to my oil pan (since I hear many people dumped on coilz go through them fairly often) and the roads here are ****, bottomed out a few times already. Just trying to save myself a hassle and find out some info regarding a replacement oil pan. From what I've seen online, the Hybrid pan (half aluminum, half steel) is the way to go (as seen below).

Now my question is... Looking on a different website, shows that "apparently" the Hybrid oil pans came on the 2004.5 - 2005 1.8T's... Never heard this before, is this some joe-blow site with incorrect information? (seen below).

If that IS the case, and they do come updated in those years, I should be good to go (since my weird MK4 comes up in VW's system as a 2006, also show's on my build sheet 2006 as well - had a few arguments with people explaining my car is an 06 MK4 and they look at me and laugh - to save the BS, I usually just say 2004.5!

I also usually tell the places I have a 2004, since I've had issues with getting MK5 parts too.

Not sure about your oil pan questions but yes, mines an 07 mk4 city and I tell many shops or whatever that its the mk4 platform as a 2004.

I am 99% sure that nothing before 2004 came stock with a hybrid pan. After 2004 is some mixed reviews, but from what i hear almost all GLI's came with these pans (with a few exceptions i have read about) but i'm not sure about regular 1.8ts. They are definitely a good upgrade, and if the pan ever does hit (sits up higher) then it will dent instead of crack. It is usually an item you buy when you crack a pan but getting one ahead of time would be recommended so you aren't stranded for a few days without a car

I have not seen a stock car with a hybrid either. Who knows....

As for the city cars most shops don't list the city as an application (as most programs are US). But yes same as mk4

If you do decide to get the pan I can get them

I guess I could stop being lazy and just look under my damn car, don't feel like laying in the snow though, I'll find an underground lol.
So all the "Hybrid" or upgraded pans are that two-piece design?

Does anyone else have or has anyone seen an MK4 like mine (not a City aka a MK4.5 lol) that has a build date of 2006? Thinking mine must have been one of the last off the assembly line? or...

Yes they will be 2 piece for 1.8t and some with vr6 have upgraded to the mk3 vr6 pan

I have never seen it personally. But now looking at my catalog it does list a 06 mk4

i cant remember where i heared this from, but i heared that the 2006' models were "built" in 2005, but "labeled" with a build date of 2006..... could be wrong though i dunno. Most people call the mexican golf (2008,2009,2010city) the mk4.5 but thats a little off topic. your car is still a mk4.

natty is correct that very few programs that actually list the 2007 city golf.

Edit: lol someone please correct me if I'm wrong and if It sounds rediculous. I have no idea if its right or not.

04.5+ 1.8ts should have all had them. I've seen them on regular 1.8t's stock.

Just take a peek. If you can see it's black, it's a hybrid; silver, and it's the regular style.

And yes, there were '06 mk4's. not common, but they are out there.

Here is a question... why not buy a skid plate and save your oil pan as well as everything else under the car?

As i found out, if you have a skidplate and normal pan the skidplate can still bend up and crack your oilpan (you see the indent of where my oilpan was?)

Skid plate just puts you that much closer to the ground. I have been driving my car low for the past 2.5 years in Calgary with the same oil pan I bought it with. I haven't had any issues, but if I had an aluminum pan I would have definitely broken it by now.
