  • Resonator / Muffler Delete

Alright, so... I've seen a bunch of dubz all over (street, forums, youtube, etc.) with guys running the good ol' Muffler Delete set-up.
It also seem's like many do the Muffler & Resonator Delete as well. I realize this is a rat-rod thing to do, but on a budget - it may be something that some of us would consider. What are your opinions on the 1.8t Muffler Delete? It's possibly something I am considering until I go APR Turbo-Back... Figured I would get some input on the matter before I start the "hack & weld" procedure.

    Re: Resonator / Muffler Delete

I'd leave it stock. I once did the muffler delete while leaving the rest stock and it sounded like a garden tractor. Your best be is to start with a downpipe if you want a bit of a deeper sound and allow more flow.

Is it going to give you a lot of gains? Most likely not.
What do you gain from it? A horrible sounding car and some bleeding ears.

I would just leave it alone, if your car has a 1.8t seriously just get a raceland 3" downpipe and tune and call it a day

        Re: Resonator / Muffler Delete

I was looking at a car and kind of still are that has a muffler delete. It's louder, but if you plan on going for a cruise, it's going to drone alot. If I get the car I plan on putting in back to stock as soon As possible, or buy a real exhaust system.

Substitute for a high flow muffler? At least it'll keep the noise down and I've seen some magnaflows got for fairly cheap.

I cut the stock muffler out of my exhaust and welded a different muffler in. It's not going to give you any HP gains but it will sound a bit better. Go buy a decent muffler and just put it in place of the stock one. Leave the resonator though because otherwise the drone will be unbearable.

If you're looking for the power gain check out the eBay 3 inch turbo backs , for 250 shipped its a great deal.
And Dylan( boldievw) and I just threw one on his Gli last week and install went pretty well. For the cost it's worth it

thanks guys, saved me hacking my exhaust off and being disappointed!
My downpipe is leaking anyways, so may as well just get the 3" downpipe.
Now the question is... do I get the cat-less downpipe?

Sean, what are you suggesting as far as a "tune" goes? I was planning on doing the Unitronic 1+ this summer...

Almost all "budget" downpies are catless
Just grab a o2 spacer or a stage 2 tune

I might have a downpipe that I can sell you for cheap soon. When I did the exhaust on my car I left my old DP on. (fitment issues with the new one) I'm going to try to send it back and get some money back, but if they insist on re-sending me one then I can sell it to you for cheap.

99% of downpipes for under $400 are going to be catless. My unitronic 1+ tune is wicked, selling it also lol. It also has the rear o2 sensor delete so that you dont get the CEL from it, only thing bad about mine in particular is that it is coded for an automatic transmission so it does give you two dashboard lights lol. A CEL for not being able to find your TCU and a traction control light (traction control is always off) again because it can't find your TCU. But i'm also willing to let it go for cheap Also not in a huge rush to sell it, it is immobilizer defeated so you can just swap it into your car and test it out if you so desire

That may be something I'm interested in, keep me posted. When saying old DP, is it OEM or Aftermarket?

haha well that may be an option for me early this summer. PM me a ballpark price, and I'll keep it in mind if your in no rush to sell it. I believe the only thing Unitronic suggests you change is the Diverter Valve (at the minimum) for 1+, correct?

Lars, do you know the HP/TQ gain's for the AWP 1.8T?
I hear Unitronic is the way to go for Daily Driver's who want that extra "kick".
