Just wondering if anyone has ever taken the emblem off of a mk4 golf hatch and if there was any indentation behind it or if its flush.

i painted my rear emblem this summer and yes there is an indentation, im sure you could find a hatch at pick and pull or something for cheap and shave/fill it.

Yes there is an indent behind it and it's a pretty decent undertaking to get rid of it.

And looks terrible without the emblem there IMO, just leaves too much open space, looks like its missing something

Shave handle with Emblem. I was going to say "gotta have something to grab onto" but then realized that only works if you have the mk5 tilting one.

No, you usually add a popper from a gas door so it pushes the hatch open enough to grab it.

This. ECS Tuning has stronger struts for the MK5/6 so that if you press the hatch release button on the remote, it acutally opens on its own.

I shaved mine but left the handle in case my battery dies and I need to get into my car (was going to do the blank door lock cover thing so the only access would be the hatch).
