Vehicle: 2000 Volkwagen Jetta VR6
Just looking for some input regarding my issue:
Long story short, involved in a minor fender bender at a very slow speed. Some guy hit my rear bumper and cracked or chipped some paint. Since the incident, my CEL has been on. Drove around, nothing noticeable other than the CEL. Scanned the code: P0420 - Cat. Eff. blah blah. Cleared the code, changed the plugs (noticed a decrease in fuel mileage), CEL stayed off. Did some more driving, CEL came back on. I did not, however, scan the car again because I just assumed it was the same code (also, when I say scan, I don't have a VAG-COM, just a generic reader). One night though, I start my car and notice the CEL doesn't go on. And now I'm still driving it with no difference in performance or anything, as well as no CEL. Going through insurance to get the estimate done at a body shop.
My question:
Still something worth looking into by the body shop? How can I prove that the CEL was there, but isn't now? Being as the body shop doesn't do any mechanical work, I spoke with them and was told that they sublet any mechanical work to be done by another shop (generic garage). I was actually hoping to get TuneDub to do the diagnosis and repair.
What's my best course of action here...?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
