    Re: Calgary + 235/35-19 = Broken Wheels/Tires?

I'm about that low in the summer, if not a little bit higher, and I rub with my 215s. If you're on the fence about lowering, I'd say you can probably get away with 225s on most wheels, but if you think that you want to lower your car, then go with the 215s and call it a day. I was originally going to get 225s and I'm happy I didn't. It all depends on wheel width and offset, so once you've narrowed it down to a couple different wheels, it'll be easier to recommend a proper tire size.

Sounds like the key is to stick with a < 8.5 wide wheel with ET 45 and then the 235 tires will clear without any issues? Is that correct?

Local shop claimed I could even go 245 on an 8.5 with ET 45; can anyone confirm that?

        Re: Calgary + 235/35-19 = Broken Wheels/Tires?

As I said before, I don't think I've seen anyone with a MK6 run a 235 tire unless they have at least a 9" wide wheel and pulled fenders. If you ever lower the car, then a 225 is the absolute widest tire you can run without doing body work. My 215s rub in the summer and now even my 225 winter tires on the 7.5" wide wheels are rubbing, and I'm only about 3/4" lower than stock. Like I said before, you could MAYBE use a 235 at stock height with a 8.5" wheel and a high offset, but I bet you'd still rub on big enough bumps or if you're really throwing the car into corners.

              Re: Calgary + 235/35-19 = Broken Wheels/Tires?

Are the 19" OE wheels in Europe only 7.5" wide?

They come with 235 rubber on the OE 19" wheels accross the pond; presumably the factory would not fit a wheel/tire combo that rubs?

How about a 235 tire on a light weight 18"x7.5 wheel?

What I'm after is the biggest possible contact patch (without other mods) to maximize cornering grip in the summer... Any suggestions?

Check out this thread. There is a lot of garbage to sift through but it gives a good idea on tire/wheel/suspension specs some people are running.

It's all in the offset. A 19x8 with a 235 may not rub with the right offset and stock ride height. In fact my old mk5 has 245/35 19s on the rear without rubbing but it's stock height currently. 215/35 did rub with the car lowered.
