  • Need help with my bumper lights!!!

    Hey,
I own a 2000 Jetta VR6. I have recently purchased smoked turning signals to replace all 4 stock ones (two on the bumper, two in the fenders). I know a shop can do this, but I would like to do it myself. If anyone has done this, please don't hesitate to help me. I don't know what exactly I have to take off for this job, so a few pointers would be great. Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this. I appreciate your help.

For the bumpers, you have to push the front in and slide it back. If you look at the new ones you will see what I'm talking about. They just pop out, no tools req'd

Thanks a lot man. It worked. Do you have any idea how to take off the two smaller ones in the fenders?

No, I have yet to change those ones out. They have got to be as easy as the others I would think.

Since you seem to be the Guru here, I may have another question. What I am trying to do right now is turn my car completely black for a nice knight-rider effect . Tinted windows, black rims, black hella taillights, smoked turning signals.... I am stuck on the grille though. Should I buy the black VW emblem in the front and replacement the chrome one, or should I buy the badgeless grille all the way... I am leaning towards the badgeless grille, but I am wondering what you think.

LOL, I am far from a guru. There are others here that I would give that distinction to, but I would agree with you on the grill. I'd either go badgeless or something like the ABT grill. If it was my car.

I'm currently thining of going the opposite, but same direction as you. My car is silver and I am thinking of clearing everything out.

edit- Have you checked out the members rides section? There a ton of nice cars there that you may be able to get ideas from.

The sidemarkers (fender ones) just pop out from the side. Wrap a butter knife or flathead screwdriver in a cloth and stick it next to the marker. You should be able to push the lens a little to the left or right (can't remember) and then pop it out. I can't remember if you push to the left or right, but they come out pretty easy, so if one way doesnt work, try the other.

                Hope that helps.

Re: Need help with my bumper lights!!!

Guys, thanks a lot. With your help and guidance, I am well on my way. I have installed the smoke turning signals, and I have ordered the badgeless grille. Now all I have to do is buy the Hella smoke tail lights... By the way, has anyone taken the emblems off the trunk? Are they glued on, or drilled into the trunk lid? I am wondering, because I am thinking of shaving them off. If anyone has an idea, please, I am open for advice. Thank again, guys, I appreciate it. I am deffinetely looking for help here from now on.

get a hairdryer and and blow the badge for a bit to warm it up, and then take some fishing line and stick it behind the letters and make a sawing motion downwards till each letter is off. then buy some goo-gone or similar glue-remover to get rid of the excess glue left behind.

for even more protection, clean and give it a good waxing (since its never seen daylight before!)

ps. here's a pic for encouragement.

You can't debadge the VW logo (obviously) but the letters come right off.

Well you can but it involves a little more then hair dryers, fishing line and goo gone!
