  • Return Policy on FS Items

Recently I parted out the old money pit, and once again thank to everyone who showed. It was good to put some faces to the names on here!
But anyways, i had a guy pick up all the leather seats from my 03.5 1.8t, and he wanted to put them in his GERMAN made TDI wagon. Now as far as i know, his seats were heated, so i guess they should be plug and play. But now he's saying that the right seat has shorted out, and he wants a refund. Fair enough, but before i cough up the cash i need some info/input from you guys.
I personally wouldn't ask for a refund for something i bought used, especially when it comes to cars but every situation is different.
This should be a plug and play, from the research I've done but I'm hesitant to give in because there is a chance they ARENT plug n play, and the possibility that there was errors in the install that caused it to short. IIRC, his wagon was an 02, and from what I've read, the connectors are NOT the same.

Like i said before, you take a risk when doing this type of thing, but i just wanted input!

I'd say no chance. If he wasn't sure, then it was up to him to ask if you would refund them. You are not a dealer, and it isn't your responsibility to know what does and doesnt fit on someone else's car. Unless you implicitly told him that they were 100% plug-and-play, then he is out of luck.

If they worked when pulled I would go tell him to take a flying leap. It is not your job to ensure the combatibility of used parts. And how is he diagnosing it as a short does he know how to meter a heat element. Tell him to swap out the elements from his old seats and to loose your number.

Up untill about a week ago, i had no idea that he even had heated seats, so i though he was going to be doing a complete wiring overhaul and splicing in the new connectors. Thats the least i would have done, with the bentley wiring diagrams close at hand. Apparently ONLY the passenger side heated seat doesn't work on settings 1-3, but at 4 nearly burned a hole through the seat. I guess that shows that they are working, but again, im not sure how he wired it or anything.

That could be a bad switch, you get the same thing in ventilation fans if the resistor in the switch burns out, it only works on high or goes high on every setting.

My 2 cents on the sale is buyer beware for used items, no refunds.

Buying used is a no refund policy, unless it's found broken when the person comes to pick it up before it leaves my hands.

Used stuff should be assumed as-is condition. I've taken back stuff when I previously stated I would, or accepted that a person wanted a chance to test fit first, but otherwise, what you see is what you get. As long as you didn't outright lie about the item, you really have no obligation to help the guy out unless you decide to do so out of the kindness of your heart.... Which doesn't really cut it if he quite probably damaged the product already...

I do my best to be honest about condition of parts when I am selling them.

I wouldn't expect a refund, I wouldn't ask for one. Unless something was discussed prior.

I think this was actually a recall. My mom had her heated seats do that same thing in her 03 jetta and she took it to Volkswagen and they replaced the heating element in it. Same thing with my sisters 02 jetta

I agree with everybody here, unless discuss prior then usually no refund should be asked for or given. Exceptions include if it is your friend or if the selling person wants the part back and the buyer doesn't really want it anymore; then buy it back for the original price and nobody is down any money.

I'm pretty sure I had this guy message me off kijiji, to trade my leather seats for his cloth plus cash. Then he tells me his passenger heated seat doesnt work haha.
