    Rear driver door lock, locks but won't unlock

    Hi guys, can anyone help me diagnose why my rear driver door will lock itself when I hit the power locks but won't unlock? It only unlocked if you manually pull on the handle. I know how to take the door card off but thought to ask before open it to discover something more complicated.

    Car and year would help. Likely the micro-switch in the door lock though.

      Oh man, I have this similar problem in my 2004.5 GLI but on the front passenger door instead.
      It doesn't happen every time and it seems to be worse when it is cold out for some odd reason.
      When I lock the doors everything is fine but when someone goes to open the door after being unlocked 2/3 times the door opens part way but not fully and then they have to try the handle again.
      The problem is always solved by opening the door from the handle on the inside but comes back whenever the car is locked.
      This sounds like a really weird logic problem. Too much LSAT prep for me!

          DonDavis your problem sounds more like the cable tension on the outside handle needs to be reset. Simple fix, just need to pull the filler plate by the handle (where the lock would be) and re-position the cable end to be tighter. Instructions should be part of whats in the link.

              oh yeah..sorry mine is a 2003 GLI, and its just like DonDavis described, but my door can't be opened from outside at all until I reach in and open it from the handle inside. I'll take a look at that link thanks!
