  • warped rotors?

So I was riding in my buddies jetta and it does not seem to pulse that bad when braking most of the time but sometimes on deerfoot when you are slowing down from 100 the whole front end shakes violently, and other times it will decelerate just fine. I now on my car when the rotors warped it was noticable all the time but never shook like this car does. Any tips to find if the rotors are warped or what else could it be?

Rotors do not look like they have been overheated and brakes were done at begining of summer

Lower control arm bushings? Tie rods? Out of alignment?

Those are the three things i would check to see if anything is shifting in higher braking applications

30mm driveaxle nut....if that is loose it will cause those symptoms.

Find the problem? My car has the same problem. Brakes look fine, has a violent steering shake when braking hard 80+

There is one tiny bolt that mount the rotor to the actual steering knuckle that breaks ALOT, so like dj said, if it is broken and your axle nut isn't tight enough that could be it.
other than that, MechEngg's probably right. Control arm bushings (especially where its mounted to the subframe)

Simple check would be to make sure the wheel bolts are tight...

That set screw for the rotor shouldnt do anything because the lug bolts hold the rotor firmly between the wheel and the hub.

In that case Brent may be correct with his loose lug bolt theory....

My car doesnt even have that screw, or a place to put it. Rotor is just loose when you take wheel off. It is for convenience, not load bearing.

I completely agree it has zero use other than to hold the rotor when you take off your wheel. My car doesn't have them either because they were stripped off by the PO

I had a similar feeling when my engine mount broke. Check them.

                      Re: warped rotors?

You would feel the vibration at all speeds if it was a 30 mm wheel nut or the wheel bolts.

That little screw as mentioned is just to hold the rotor in place, won't make any difference as the rotors are held in place via the wheel bolts.

My vote is the control arm bushings, not crazy expensive, just need a press and $40 or less (For the pair and both sides, also talk to Natty for your best deal as I checked one of his suppliers and the price difference from him to the dealer is huge)

One other question, who did your brakes at the beginning of the summer?

Wheels torqued to spec, screw for disks replaced with disks replaceing contol arm bushings with r32 ones as there is visable deflection when accelerating hard from a stop

                          Re: warped rotors?

This kind of isnt vw related but this happened to my parents SUV and they got the rotors and pads replace and it was fine, I think it could be grooves or pits on the rotors or an uneven wear on the pads.
