  • Well this is gonna be pricey.....

4 months ago, the head on my 1.8t cracked. Got an AEB head shipped over to me, got it machined and did a valve job on it.
After the head conversion, i went to fire it up and nothing. It turns over, but no spark.

Before anyone screams coil packs, theyve been upgraded with the stage 2 coils from ECS.
The last code (ecm relay) was what i suspected to be a shot relay. Replaced it and nothing.
Checked the grounds and wiring harness for the ignition system, re grounded it and still nothing.
Basically im at a complete loss. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Is this you? If so weren't you registered here under the same name?

Anyways, regardless of that, you need to get to the bottom of your ecu power supply issue.

Also, did you by any chance damage your primary o2 sensor wiring?

Clear all the codes and try starting it again. I want to see what was there before and what just showed up. Also, you need to change the cam wheel or it wont work. If it is an AEB head, you need to use the cam trigger wheel from the old head (AWP, AWD etc.)

Yeah, just made a new one to keep a certain someone from posting useless garbage on the thread.
Not as far as i can tell; i've gone through the ignition harness and re-grounded it as it was a common failure in the 02-04 jetta/golf/nb.

As an aside to your problem, you created a new user name on these boards to hide who you are yet you expect people to spend their time trying to help you? That is a little underhanded man, its like pretending to be homeless so you can go to the food bank for dinner.
I do hope you find your problem, it might be best to start checking your wiring for continuity from end to end.

Don't worry about trolling, just be yourself and don't get your self riled up. You've got to listen to other peoples input if you expect them to help you out, wether you like it or not.

This is a community, people you piss of here are real people, they are the ones that will help or not help you.

As for diagnosis; here is the needed ECU pinout info to troubleshoot wether you have power at the ECU or not. Do you have a bentley manual? You can try a new 409 relay while your at it. Where are you located?

Agreed, better to post your problems under your own name. It's not like it is that hard to determine who it is, it's not like cracked heads come around all the time.

Anyways I would place money on the fact that you either shorted out some fuses/relays or didn't properly extend your wires when you were trying to do your partial wire tuck. Especially since you said that some wires crossed, i would start going through the bentley manual and checking every fuse/relay. Starting with the two relays in the engine compartment.

Spent the day tearing apart the wiring, and checked everything. i mean everything. From every pin on the coil pack harness to ground, both ecm relays with the help of the bentley, and there seems to be nothing. Im throwing in the towel and taking it to the stealership :/
                    thanks for the help

Re: Well this is gonna be pricey.....

I had a breakthough this morning. So i spent the day testing and running a new ground from the ignition system, and i went to fire it up and nothing. i pulled out a coil pack and connected it, cranked it over and i had spark! threw the plug in as well, and it too had spark.

Then i had a thought. I put a MLS head gasket on when i converted to AEB. With the added bore length, could it be possible its not getting enough compression for the mixture to ignite? and if thats possible, would gapping the plugs fix it, or should i tear the head off and put a stock gasket on :|

Re: Well this is gonna be pricey.....

A stock gasket is best, I am running an victor reinz and have hit over 30psi by accident but didn't blow the gasket.

Anyway, do you have fuel? Have you tried changing the fuel pump relay yet? If not where are you located? I have an extra one that you could try out.
