  • VW MK4 - rear abs sensors - which way is up?

I just checked my rear sensors and I discovered they are installed differently on each side...

One had the two tabs pointing down (like in this picture) and the other was the other way around, I'm guessing the proper way is for the two tabs to be pointing down but I'd like a confirmation?

Where they screw in there is a screw hole on both sides so that doesn't help.

This is what they look like:

Finally found a video of someone else doing it

By the looks of it my guess was right. The sensor goes in the way it is in the picture, with the two teeth facing down.

      Update:

It seems that on the rear right side, the sensor fits with the two teeth going down, but on the rear left side it fits the other way, with the two teeth facing upwards - unless my car has the wrong abs connector wire, mine is too short to have the sensor fit any other way.

Shouldn't matter what way it's mounted, it's just a pulse detection cause there is a slotted ring on the stub axle/bearing.

I would agree, but two things made me second guess that.
1 - Since there is less plastic on the two teeth side, I thought that maybe that side would be more sensitive and pickup the signal slightly better?
2 - The front has two different part numbers, if I could just flip one, why make two different parts?

Anyway, looks like for the back sensors it doesn't matter. Maybe someone else will wonder about this one day and find my post lol.

The detection is on the end. Not the sides.
