  • Mk4 seat question

Ive found my back stiffens up on long drives, even though I've adjusted the stock plain Jane seats 10 different ways from Sunday.

How much of a difference would upgrading to a Gti or even Gli seat really make? I'd spend the money if there is a noticeable difference.

    Thanks

    Re: Mk4 seat question

I found that my back got sore after an hour or so of driving in the GLI Recaros. The seats were great and I loved them, but not because of their comfort...

I found in the GLI recaros I could drive forever... after a straight shot from van to vegas and back I had no complaints!

Not sure if the GTI or the GLI seats have lumbar supports, but they do wonders in the .:R32 seats. 4300 km's back from North Carolina and we werent sore at all compared to 800km vacations in the regular golfs!

I think my problem with them was that I couldn't raise the front part of the seat bottom, so I couldn't get really comfortable. I was able to tilt the seat bottom in the Volvo I had before the GLI

Damn. Totally opposite situation for me, I am in love with MK4 seats to the point that I want one as my office chair. I've done numerous long distance trips in my MK4 (Calgary -> Chicago and back a bunch of times, Calgary -> New Orleans and back etc) over the years and the seats are heavenly. When my back muscles get tight I turn on the heated seat and it feels amazing.

            got heat?

              Re: Mk4 seat question

Heat is one of the worst things you can do for back pain. You will feel better for the time being, but in the long run, heat only brings fluids to the sore area and in turn causes inflammation to the muscles leading to more muscle and back pain later on.

The R32 are ammazing as they do have lumbar support and are much better then the standard golf seats!

If new seats are not in the budget, try going to a chiropractor or even walmart and pick up a lumbar support that you can throw into your car while driving. Also, your back pain can be due to sitting for long periods of time rather then actual lack of back support. Sitting for long periods of time can lock up your hips and make you feel sore in your back.

I worked in a chiropractor clinic for 3 years so incase your wondring how I know all of this. FYI- I feel your pain as I have delt with back pain most of my life :(

                Re: Mk4 seat question

GLI and GTI recaro seats do have adjustable lumbar support.

After a 15 hour straight drive back from Winnipeg my back and legs were not sore what so ever with them, great investment if you like comfy seats that hold you in place fairly well and look great

                  Re: Mk4 seat question

I find my GTI seats with lumbar support to be excellent as well. Drove for 14hrs straight two weeks ago with not complaints.

Thanks for the info all, looks like I'll keep my eyes open for a Gti set at least
