Re: Spacers, Fender pulling and lowering Questions

I've taken a second look at the rims and by installing the inside of the rear rims on the outer edge I can gain 11mm by doing this.

    17x8.5 ET30 front
    17x8.5 ET18+11 = ET29 rear

With the 20mm adapters I end up with:
    17x8.5 ET10 front
    17x8.5 ET9 rear

If I can find 15mm adapters I'll sit a better:
    17x8.5 ET15 front
    17x8.5 ET14 rear

I am thinking I should get 215/40/17 tires, but was wondering how much those might rub? Also what will the difference from the base of the tire to the tread part?

I'd like to keep it as flat as possible, without that space between the edge of the rim and the edge of the tire, should I go a size bigger maybe?

Re: Spacers, Fender pulling and lowering Questions

I put them on today as a test, I replaced the rear hubs so it was all just sitting there begging for me

A little bit of poke though, about 9mm lol

Note: yeah I changed my avatar already even though the rims aren't on, I love photoshop!

Jack the wheel up so it sits in the correct ride height position, i'm not sure exactly how it changes but it would give you a better look at what it would really look like on your car, both from the side and rear

Or set the car down with a piece of 4*4 underneath the wheel

Re: Spacers, Fender pulling and lowering Questions

So I lowered the jack quite a bit and put a small piece of wood underneath to level out the suspension.

The poke has now reduced to about 4-5mm

Photoshop feeler below - not a good photoshop but I like it so far.

Also, I am going to be dropping about 1-1.5 inch so it will sit lower.

Idf plates and lots of low will be needed to pull those off, look forward to seeing them on

They will actually poke out more with the plates since is spaces the hub out about 10mm. I know they say the camber compensates for it but it doesn't. I have the plates and I know how my wheels fit

Good to know how much more poke do you think you get? I was going to get them when I order their rear bag kit because my early air lifts suck and I want to switch up to the ss-5

The top of the rim (18") pokes out maybe 3mm or so further. A 17" rim should be the same with and without drop plates, as the wheel size plays a factor with the angles. The middle of the wheel where the hub is is about 8-10mm out further. Bottoms of the wheels are pushed out accordingly to other dimensions.

I'm still working on refinishing the rims, lots of work to be done so I won't be putting them on for a while yet.

I'm not looking to slam the Jetta, I still need to drive it everywhere in winter without becoming a snow plow, and I'm also not ready for bags so I"m just going for a small drop for now.

When I roll my fenders, will it help push the fenders out enough so that the wheels fit under?

If you aren't looking to slam the jetta then get some nice meaty tires so that your wheels don't look awkward. Stretched tires are only needed/only look good on absolutely slammed vehicles. If you are only lowering it 2" or so get some 225/45s or 235/45 or something. 215/40s will be WAY too small, and 40 series tires are never for 17" wheels anyways, they just are way too small.

Except meaty tires will look retarded if the wheels are out past the fenders...

Yup, but stretched tires will look retarded as well if he has a 2" or 3" wheel gap.
