gear selecting issue

  • gear selecting issue

    i have a 2002 gti 1.8T and it wont shift into first or second unless i shift it manually under the hood.

    any ideas on what could be causing it?

    Either your linkage is out of alignment or your selection fork is done, but being that it goes in if you do it in the engine bay, my vote is linkage needs alignment.

      X2 I'd get a Bentley manual and do the procedure, it's very easy takes around 10 min

            I took another look at it and what I thought was first and second under the hood is third and fourth. My car doesn't engage in first or second even under the hood.

              Try the adjustment if that doesnt work then it's more than likely the selection fork, give us a call at Calgary autoworks and we can get you sorted!
