  • Replacing MKIV Keys

My Woman's MKIV Golf only came with one Key fob. I have a key fob from one of my MKIV's that got totaled that I would like to get re-cut to work on her Golf. My question is has anyone done this and how much it cost? Also, can I use vagcom and just reprogram the replacement key myself or am I better off just going to the dealer, also how much is that?

Another question kind of on the same topic. My woman's golf also has a damaged door lock cylinder as the previous owner had someone try and break-into the car and forced something into the lock and broke it. The key still fits and can lock and unlock it, but it doesn't require the key as you could just stick a flathead screwdriver in it and turn it and it would lock or unlock. Has anyone fixed this and know what it costs or the parts involved?

    Thanks guys.

For the door just get the key lock delete, it's like $35 and if you can find a car being parted that's the same color just grab the plate from any other door.

Where do I get this key lock delete from? What plate are you talking about? Its the lock cylinder that's damaged.

On the passenger side notice how there is no key hole? That plate is interchangeable with the drive side, get the blank and toss it in. I think natty can get them otherwise $35 at the dealer plus paint.

Whoever said you can just reprogram a key with vagcom is wrong. You need Vag-Tacho to get the code needed to reprogram new keys then you need vag-com to program the key. That being said I have a vag-tacho you can borrow. I too need to buy another key one of these days. Getting it cut is always the problem although I am sure there is someone in town that will do it.

You can reprogram the remote features, but the immobilizer needs to be done at the dealer. Never heard of vag-tacho before

Do you know how to use the vag-tacho Brent? Either way, I'm interested in giving it a shot. Anyone know of anyone besides the dealer that cuts these keys or know how much the dealer charges?
