  • VW Sport Suspension---Please help me!!

I currently have a 03 Jetta GLS 1.8T.....with the bone stock suspension..I am looking to upgrade with another guy's used VW sport suspension.

If I install all 4 springs and only rear shocks, 1)Will that be safe/balanced?
    2) Will there be any improvements in the ride quality, without the sport front shocks??
    3) Do the GTI And Jetta have interchangeable suspension--Can I use a GTI sport suspension on my jetta??

Thanks in advance..I appreciate any and all responses intended to help.

For the cost of actually installing it, make sure you will be happy with a VERY slight change. I would suggest getting something a bit more noticable, or save the money for something else. Or at least wait till your stock shocks go.

I doubt you'll notice the difference between normal and sport suspension. It's a load of VW crap imo.

IMO, it's not worth the $ buying the VW sports suspension. My car originally came with the sports sus and it actually sat higher than my work colleague's non-sports. The only diff being, she has 16's and I have 17's, but total 4 x 4 none the less. I think that the sports are only something like 7% stiffer than the non-sports. Sports also come with 21mm rear sway vs. 18mm on the non-sports.

I would save my money and get a real sports suspension.

Check out my pics w/ 4 x 4 action in the members rides section.

I think that most people could not tell the difference between most of the kits in a blind test. A few of us have the FK kits (I am happy with mine). They are definitely priced well.

If you have some more money I would go with adjustable Koni dampers since they are... well adjustable. Then you can just pick some springs that will give you a nice low ride

I'm running with the FK Highsports. I have no complaints about these coilovers whatsoever. The ride is definately stiffer than stock but still relatively comfortable.

H&R is the way id go but thats me. never put anything but the best on cause it gets old real quick. so save up and do it right by getting H&R coilovers they get your sway bars and tires go all the way or not at all. good luck

I jumped on a deal for the 20AE suspension, not sure how it compairs to the sport supension but the ride did change a lot.

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for your 20th AE suspension after shipping and everything?

I have a 20th AE, and I had a 2001 GTI with sport suspension before that and I can tell you that the 20th AE suspension is WAY better than the sport suspension in my 2001. The "sport suspension", if it truly can be called that, is a *slightly* harder riding regular suspension in my estimation.

I would definitely recommend a 20th AE suspension for someone that doesn't want to spend a whole lot of cash and wants good (but certainly not as good as some aftermarket setups) improvements.

If I remmeber right it was about $400 and I picked it up in town so no shipping. In my opinion it was well worth it (only had 5k on it too)

Save for the coilovers, I've been batting this around myself going from my stock GTI stuff to new springs and shocks, but the adjustability of the coils has me holding out, especially with the calgary winter roads. I don't think my sport suspension is anything to special, so wait! Unless you want to give me lotsa cash for mine.....
