  • ABD Rear Sway Bar

Just got my ABD RSB delivered by canada post. Picked it up during boxing day but C1 lost my order, called them up and they sent one out to me with free delivery

Anyways, will probably try to install it soon, maybe tonight (if I'm not tired) or on the weekend. Then I'm gonna go for a spirited drive!!

Also, just wanted to know if anyone has any tips or tricks or even difficulties during installation of their RSB?

i think with the ABD drilling is involved but don't hold me to that.

If you decide to do drilling, measure twice, then measure again, then measure again, then drill once. Drilling could go horribly wrong.

Drilling is easy. Just make sure you've got some GOOD drill bits. The el cheapo ones at Cdn Tire will go dull pretty quick as it tries to go through the torsion beam!! Start with a smaller bit and work your way up.

              thanx for the advice guys.

as for determining the distance between the 2 bolts that connect to your torsion beam, what do you guys figure?

and for those who bought an abd rsb, did it come with any instructions?

Sry - I just paid C1 to do it (I think it was 30 mins, so about 35 bucks).

Doh! I know that I paid for more than 30 mins.

bah -- do it youself. It comes with pretty detailed instructions! It'll take you probably an hour or two, including the time it takes to drive the car into the garage and assuming you take your time!

                      Re: ABD Rear Sway Bar

UPDATE : ok, so on saturday morning, i decided to get this thing installed. took me about 1.5hrs (fairly straight forward) to install. hardest part was drilling into the torsion beam....and trying to stay warm

when it was installed, took it out for a drive in the snow. didn't go too crazy into the corners but can definitely feel that the rear end wants to swing out more and the front wheels don't want to slide as much. now, i can't wait till all the snow melts so that i can really test her out!!

during my drive though, i did notice that whenever i went over bumps, it sounded like something was loose. so i thought i didn't lube the endlinks enough...i took the endlinks off, greased it up real good, then went our for another drive. but there was still a rattle.

it looks like the bolt that connects the endlink, shock and linkage arm is not thick enough, so whenever i hit a bump, the space between the shock and the linkage arm would cause the rear to rattle. but, the bolt has to be the same diameter as the stock bolt since i used the stock nut to tighten everything. has anyone had this problem with the abd rsb? what can i do to fix that rattling?

                      eric.

i was doing a quick search on the internet and came across this site:
                        http://personal2.iddeo.es/davidsk8/swaybars/sway.html

the guy who installed his rsb mentioned that you need a couple of washers on the endlink bolts. i never used any washers. could this be the problem of the rattles??

There is a really good link from vortex, http://www.abella.net/vw/autotech.html
Well it is autotech, but it's a good reference point.

                          Hope it helps.
