  • Where to jack car

    Hey everyone.

I finally got around to picking up some side skirts which will be going on in a week or two and it got me thinking about how to jack up the car. Will the OEM skirts on an R32 or 337 cover the pinch weld or will this still be a viable jacking point? I'm debating getting the ECS jack-pad kit or making my own pinch weld adaptor for my floor jack, assuming I can fit it under the car once the skirts are on. What other points under the car are strong enough for jacking besides the pinch weld?

I can't say for sure about the R32 or 337 skirts but the Votex and GLI skirts don't cover the jack points.

The .:R32 skirts dont cover the pinch welds either. I have more than enough clearance on my skirts when I jack up the sides.

I had those jack pads on my last golf. Although they don't recommend them for anything but a 4 point hoist lift I never had a problem with them. I would be careful where you go on the pinch welds. Only near the marked spots are they reinforced for lifting. Everywhere else they will just crush if you look at them wrong.

Never seen a car where you couldn't jack it easily on the recommended jack point even if it comes with an OEM body kit.

Really only a problem if you have something aftermarket...

I usually lift from a subframe bolt then put the jackstand under the pinch weld at the marked spot, It's too tight to fit both the jack and stand at the recommended spot and will start to bend.

I also use to use a hockey puck with a slit cut in it when lifting from the pinch weld.

This is what I do also.

Thanks for all the replies. I cut a puck last night when I swapped to summers and it seemed to work fine. I probably shouldn't do this, but I jack behind the front wheel at the intended spot and find that both wheels come off the ground. Saves some time only having to jack the car once per side I guess I'll wait until the skirts are on and if clearance isn't an issue I should be fine until I go coils later in the summer (if I go that route).
