  • Planning on new suspension

Anyone in the Calgary area with lowered suspension and 18's that would be willing to give me a ride in their car this spring? I want to lower my car 1-1.5" to clear up the wheel gap and stiffen things up a bit. I'm leaning towards the Eibach kit, but wanted my butt to feel it... first hand

I will also be looking for anyone that would want to help me tackle installing it myself before heading into the shop for an alignment. I'm not opposed to coils either, if I can find a set that don't ride to harsh. Any info on your setups, and possibility of a test ride would be great.

For what it's worth, the suspension will be going on my '03 VR6 GTI.

I started out with the eibach springs, but it wasn't enough drop for me. FK makes a good quality coilover at a decent price, and they ride so nice!

I have bilstein sport shocks and H&R race springs and i think the ride is awesome .. some roads here get annoying to drive on but i imagine thats the same for any lowered car..

IMO the best deal right now is to get a 20th Aniversary suspension from Vortex. Lots of people (for some reason) have removed the suspensions from their brand new 20th aniversary GTI's. I think that the 20th suspension provides a perfect drop, you know that the springs are matched to the shocks, and the whole thing has been endorsed by VW. They are also going really cheap compared to aftermarket suspensions.

I think this would be true for the 1.8T/ 2.0 but for the VR6 and TDi golf/gtis the rear ends up being much higher than a 20th. The front weight really seems to lift the rear.

Just put a big stereo in the back like me, it even outs the weight of the TDi with my 20th AE setup

For coilovers, my KW's have a decent ride. Flat and stable but still comfortable around town.

I have RPI springs (1.8" lower) and bilstein shocks on 18's, ride is pretty firm on my 18's, but soft enough that the girls dont complain.
