  • MK6 coil installation advice

So Ryan and I are installing the coilovers on my car this Saturday. From what I've read, the MK6s are fairly similar to the MK5s, but with different bolts basically. So are there any tools that anyone can recommend that will make things easier for us? I've been looking at this DIY to get the basic idea but if some things are different, I'd like to plan ahead and gather all of the tools I need.

If anyone else wants to drop by on Saturday, let me know.

    Thanks!

It's a pretty straight forward job, but took me and a buddy of mine WAY longer than planned just because the factory parts were a pain to get out.

It took me about 3-4 hours to change mine, I didnt have the special strut spreader tool for the fronts so I just wedged a chisel in there and the struts slid right out and in.

I think the mk4 strut spreader tool would work for a mk5-6 aswell - http://store.concept1.ca/store/produ...t-Spread-Tool/

                  DIY - http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...er-Install-DIY

Rears are no problem and go super quick, the thing i had problems with was getting the fronts to settle fully in the knuckle, i needed about 5mm for the tab to move so i could stick the bolt in to lock the knuckle but it was a pain to move it up.

Make sure you have the triple squares, spreader bit and a good impact and youll be fine.

Yeah Ryan has something that he said will work just as well as a strut spreader, so I'm not too worried about that
