Has anyone replaced the speakers on their Jetta IV?

If you have done this, what is the speakers size for the front and the rears and what brand of speakers have you installed?? Also were there fitting issues?? Thanks

actually, the speakers in Mk4's are 6.75"s, but if you can't find a good 6.75, 6.5's will fit as well.

Hmmm replacing the Mark IV speakers is a ***** to get them installed properly visons ect .. will charge you like $500. The door for one takes like an hour to remove. But the big problem is the VW stock spearkers come with a palstic cone that is all one piece that you will have to replace. You will have to replace this is a piece of wood that you cut out in a donut. YOu can simple screw your speaker in if you wish ( this is what i ended up doing ) and it still sounds good. But to install them properly takes a while. I am running 6.5 MB quarts and then sound amazing.

This may sound ignorant, but I just went to Circuit City and let them do their thing. A friend there hooked me up with some Infinitys. But he also told me that putting in a different deck would be a ***** and may mess with the computer in the car. How did you put in an Alpine without messing things up?

How do you disable the orange K-wires? Does this prevent the alarm from malfunctioning with the new deck? I am considering replacing my stock deck with an .mp3 playback unit but have been worried about messing up my alarm.

Couple audio questions.

1) Someone told me that replacing the amp on the Monsoon system is worthwhile, even keeping original deck and speakers. Any comments?

2) I find the bass performance lousy, can I add a sub in the trunk without replacing the Monsoon deck? I like the factory deck look as well as the steering wheel controls etc.
