Call where ever you ordered your tires from and cancel hopefully it hasn't been shipped yet. 225/45 is massive for our cars and your probably going to have to have rubbing issues.

imo go 215/40 up front and 225/40 in the back to be safe

I tend to lean towards this answer. when you crank your wheel all the way to one side the extra 1/2" radius will most likely cause the tire to run on the inside frame, at least on a mk4 golf/jetta. Doesn't matter on the height but to get the same fender clearance you will have to raise the car up another 1/2" at least for clearance.

Re: Help me with tire sizes!!

this is a passat ladies, not a jetta. if you look at the pictures of my passat above, you can see with your own eyes that it is possible. I don't know why people continue to give their opinions and guesses when someone else CLEARLY has done it and proved it. 245/40r18 which is shown in my winter picture is EXACTLY the same size as 225/45r18. The 245's NEVER rubbed and the 225's will have more stretch so even less rubbing then the NON rubbing 245's. My summer 20's were 235/35r20 which is 1.2" taller then the 245/40r18's and those didn't rub either.

          245/40r18 with 18x.8.5 et35F and 18x9.5 et28F on a b5.5 passat - NO RUBBING

          235/35r20 with 20x8.5 et35F et23R on a b5.5 passat - NO RUBBING

          235/35r20 with 20x8.5 et35F 20x10 et38 on a b5.5 passat - Only rubbed when 12 people where in the back in Vegas

Conclusion: the 225/45r18's you ordered will be just fine!

Pat, you don't know how many people actually messaged me to tell me that i was 100% correct about that thread haha. Guess what, they had also ordered very recently from that website also.

Popp, I have no experience with a passat, that is why i CLEARLY STATED "at least on a mk4 golf/jetta". Learn to read for once before you go trying to bash people for being "wrong"

LOL for the record, I posted that to get a laugh out of internet arguing. That applies to BOTH OF YOU!!! Sometimes one person will be right, other times another person will be right. But for the sake of the OP and allowing his thread to stay open, please leave the bickering to PM's.

Please dont make me cue the merman! You're cooperation is appreciated, from the OP

If there was a thread about "what dishwasher hose should someone buy to hook up their dishwasher", would you post your opinions of "what wrench you would use to install a light fixture above your porch in your country cottage"?????

I did learn how to read the OP's post about his PASSAT........ just sayin

I find that fitment on a 5.5 is damn close to a MKIV. popp always loved your old whip but it also depends how low he is. if he anywhere near my ride height that fender liner in the back is going to need a trimming

Thanks for all of the help. The tires are still ordered and on their way. I will post pics once installed. I'm not too low, similar to Popp's old ride height.

Well here it is....I think they fit well, I'm glad I didn't go with a lower series tire. This car is a family wagon and hauls a lot of $hit. Overall I'm happy. Thanks for the help picking the tires all! Don't mind the reverse rake, the car is level, just with the winter tires and wheels in the back not so much.

The ML AMG Wheels are SICK! I almost bought those in 20" for my Benzo! Great choice!
