  • Help me with tire sizes!!

I bought some summer wheels a while ago and am going to be buying tires for them this week. I am looking for a little help with the sizes. The car will be a daily driver / baby hauler / family road tripper. I am not looking for lots of stretch and don't want rubber bands. The car is a b5.5 passat wagon lowered on JOM Bluelines. The wheels are:

    Fronts - 18x8.5 et30
    Rears - 18x9.5 et35

I was thinking about going with these sizes....

    Fronts - 225/40
    Rears - 245/40

I am worried that the rear tires might be a bit too beefy and will rub. Any input would be great. Thanks.

For my 18x9.5's I'm running 215 40's...245 would be so beefy I don't think I've seen a MKIV running that meaty a tire before.

      edit: seen it's a B5 Passat maybe they'll work!

Would 235/35 be better for the rear maybe?

Re: Help me with tire sizes!!

          How low is your wagon?
A 215/40 on an 8.5 won't be too crazy stretch. I have a b5 wagon with 19x9FR and 19x9.5RR with 215/35s all the way around with no rubbing issues, fronts look good but the rear is stupid.
I'm assuming you'll want an even looking stretch on the fronts and the rear, so you'll most likely have to jump at least 20mm or 30mm size to get that look.
To give you an idea of what the strech will look like check out www.tyrestretch.com, this is a picture of a 235/40 on a 9.5. http://tyrestretch.com/9.5_235_40_R1...40_R18.jpg.php

          For a daily i would go 215/40FR and 235/40RR.

Also different tires will strech differently, go to urban X north or south they know there ****.

            I ran 235/35r20 on 20x8.5 with a et35 f and et23 r with a 1.5"f and 2.25"r drop........ No rubbing

If your not awd I'd run the same tires around so you could rotate.

I'd run 225/45r18 all the way around and throw spacers in the rear. The tires will be 1" taller then stock giving you a more comfortable ride and will fill the wheel gap better and you'll have great stance stretch in the rear!

            This is 225/45r18 winters I ran on 8.5f ad 9.5r et35

Thanks Popp! I think I will be ordering 225/45's all around. That is pretty much the look I was going for.

PS - Are you able to get hubcentric rings in??

Re: Help me with tire sizes!!

sorry, i was drunk last night........ my tires were 245/40r18 not 225/45r18. They are the same size, so you could use the 225's but the rear stretch will be way more then that of the pictures shown......

225/45 won't have as much stretch because it is taller.......

Damn, I ordered the 225/45 this morning. Oh well I'll give them a try, the stretch doesn't seem to extreme on the rear...

Not to hijack the thread, but do you guys go anywhere specific to get your stretched tires put on, or wil George do it?

You can also take them to Kaltire on 32nd Ave. NE. Chad, the manager there, is on eurodrivers.
