        Lithium grease is usually recommended. WD-40 works though. Dealers use lithium from what I've seen.

          I've been using that too but then it'll be months and the squeak is back.

              Re: Door Grease

              i think the only reason wd-40 had ever been discouraged is because if there are any rubber bumpers in the mechanism, they may not be oil-safe rubber, and could break down over time. I've never talked to anyone first hand that has had the problem though.

                Re: Door Grease

                I say not WD-40. WD-40 is not a lubricant. Even on the WD-40 website they say WD-40 "cleans degreases, penetrates to loosen up stuck parts, prevents corrosion" not that it is any kind of industrial or long term lubricant. Lithium grease spray is not expensive. Work it into the hinge you may need to move it while you spray it and do a few passes.

                  WD = Water Displacement
                  40 = Test 40

                  It removes water and prevents corrosion as Kor said, not a lubricant, it works better than nothing. But like bicycle chains, it builds up dust and can lead to premature wear of joints.

                    I used lithium grease. Applied it almost 2 years ago now still squeak less.
