  • WTD: smarter than me tuners to help get a LM2 work on our city golf

Hey, can someone help explain why the beautiful LM2 I just bought doesn't work on the city golf? I know its basically a 2008 2001 car. But still, shouldn't this LM2 work on a 2001 2.slow?

Firstly the connector barely, and I mean barely fits in the hole. You have to reef on it like a mofo.
Second, when its "in" (not sure it is) then it reads nothing.

Is there anyone smart on here that can help diagnose this issue for us? Our vag com works, no problem, but I want something easier to use to log wideband air fuels.

2008 is likely can-bus, 2001 is not. Part of problem?

OBD2 is the standard for the hardware interface (ie the connector). It also outlines the format for the error messages but each manufacture usually builds on this and adds different functionality. CAN, ISO 9142 and KWP2000 are just different signal protocols. CAN takes a different interface than the other two as they are K-line based where CAN is a new 2 wire format that is a lot faster.
Basically for a VW you will have two interfaces, CAN and not CAN. They are not interchangeable. All new VW's use CAN.
