  • talk to me about wheel spacers

Ok this might sound like a dumb question but I need some help regarding wheel spacers.

I'd like to run something like 5 mm in the front and 10 mm in the back. Question #1: do I need longer wheel bolts to make this happen? Also the VW hub size is 57.1, but the bore on my wheels is 66.5. Question #2 I' d like to eliminate the hub centric ring is this possible with spacers, or do I have to get these custom made somewhere to go from 57.1 to 66.5?

    Thanks

Not absolutely necessary for 5mm, but recommended, 10mm longer bolts for sure.

Get spacers with the larger outer bore and 57.1 on the inside, likely will have to be custom. Just get metal hub centering rings if you are looking to throw out money, otherwise plastic ones are fine, all they do is make sure the wheel mounts up centered.

I find that the plastic ones work better. The plastic ones fit a bit snugger. They were a minuscule amount larger than the metal ones but being plastic they could be forced in and gave a better fit than the metal ones. I had vibration from the wheels with the metal ones and no vibration with the plastic ones.

Re: talk to me about wheel spacers

I wasnt able to run my hubcentric rings with ECS Tuning 10mm spacers. They won't fit over the lip on the spacer. I didn't have any issues with vibrations by not using them though

Also, I wouldn't recommend getting custom spacers made because if you ever decide to get new wheels with a 57.1 bore you will no longer be able to use them

Re: talk to me about wheel spacers

Both front and back you need the spacer to exactly fit the hub, and you need the wheel to fit on either the hub or the lip on the spacer.

How tall is your hub front/rear, I'm not sure what you drive?
Do you know how thick the hubcentric rings are for those wheels?

As BaggedGLI said with custom spacers this is for sure possible. Get the right bore for your hub on the inside, and get a machined lip that fits your wheel on the outside. Run plastic hubcentric rings to fit the bevel of the inside of the wheel.

You MAY be able to pull it off without custom spacers but... I probably wouldn't bother.

get 57.1 spacers and then 57.1 to 66.5 hubrings......custom spacers will be way to much for the same affect as the hubrings.

Well for the rear I'm sure it would work, the hubring can fit on the lip of the 10mm spacer and away you go.

But for the front, there will be no lip on the spacer, the hub will poke through. Depending on the hub height it may not poke through enough? E.g. if its a 10mm hub, it would poke out 5mm not sure if that is enough to seat the hubring. It depends on the hubring and the hub dimensions.

If this is the case get a set of the euro image tuning hub extenders.

Re: talk to me about wheel spacers

I guess I'm a little weary i've never run aftermarket wheels always ran OEM's. It didn't really sit well with me knowing that the hubcentric ring was plastic but from the sounds of it that's the way to go. I was also unsure about having so much crap between the wheel and the hub (wheel, hubcentric ring, spacer, hub) that's why I was looking to go custom. If it makes a difference the car is a MK6 Golf TDI I'd measure the Hubs and the rings but the wheels are on the car and I do not feel like taking them off.

I'd like a little poke but nothing outrageous.

If the ECS tuning lips don't fit the rings will the H&R's fit?

Re: talk to me about wheel spacers

To be honest 5mm in the front is so small are you sure you will even notice?

Anyway there is no way to say 100% if you will have any problems with vibrations with the front, your hub is only 10mm tall so your wheel will be centered by just the smallest bit of the hub touching the plastic hub ring. It will fit but as I said might or might not have some steering wheel vibrations. If the ring is very thick it will be worse, if its not too thick it should be OK. For the rear I think you would be fine with out of the box 10mm spacers with a lip and a hub ring.

My hub stuck out enough on the 7mm spacer for the hub ring to catch it still
