Tucking tire is easy. I did that with my FK 35/40 kit + 19's. Looked low.....but wasn't. Take a look at the side profile of each car I posted (gap under the rockers/skirts). They all sit at a reasonable/drivable height IMO.

Don't you see that every single car you posted is VERY LOW! Zero gap between tires and the fender, they are all at least tucking tire. So my statement still

225/40/18 has a diameter of 25.086" 225/35/19 has a diameter of 25.200" so ride height has no bearing it is just rim tire ratio, the wheel package is the same diameter
Been driving VAG for longer then allot of the members have been alive

The tire size has nothing to do with it. It's the fact that 19's look off with wheel gap, so you must be low enough to pull them off.

Even my 18's looked off with wheel gap, the 17s not so much.

Don't do 19's. I'm no wheel expert but I think they're way too big regardless. Look funny on the smallish looking car. Same thing as that mk1 - tit comparison picture.

I am trying for the life of me to find a picture of C-towndrivers car that works. Dood named Al bought his car on the forums here and put GLI seats etc into it to take it to the next level. That car was put together in like 02/03 and was one of the first on 19's in town, looked SICK imo. I am a HUGE fan of moderately lowered vehicles that dominated when the MK4 scene had just begun. This whole "OMG I can't drive down my street without scraping my subframe, I'm lower than you" mentality has ruined it for me.

edit: not C-towndrivers OG 2002 photos but these are best I can find. OG triple OG.

Haha, this thread's got some spark

My sig is good enough "proof"… not that my stance dialed in yet or perfect by any means. Personally, I like an even amount of gap around the wheel… so lowered but not slammed. I had 17's on my last MK4 - they looked good but more of a winter setup. The 17"-19" range all look good on MK4's though; it's more a matter of getting the details right for the overall look/purpose of your ride than a one size wheel fits all, IMHO.

NISMOD has posted some nice MKIV 19" wheel examples & there are tons out there.

LMAO this sums it up for me as well. I see plenty of MKIV that have pulled off 19's, but these guys have a lot of work and time into their rides. The OP is just starting, he may want to work himself up to the task. Plus as noted before, slammed 19's on 30profile rubber on our streets is asking for a frequent flier card at Alberta wheel repair.

That's how we rolled back in the early days!!! Cup kits and 19s were just fine, everyone is spoiled now with cheap coils and air systems!

I do think the right 19s can work on a MK4, so do what you like, just remember the cardinal rule drop before wheels no matter what either will be!

These are 19's and might look sweet. Chad had them on his blue MKIV Jetta and they looked good.

Lower before rims though for sure, if you are lowered and find a pair of rims you could always ask to test fit them to see if you like the way they fit. I hear of people doing that all the time. Never hurts to ask.
