  • Need help!

Hoping someone has an idea of where I should go from here - '82 Rabbit 1.7L. Removed fuel accumulator. Ran perfectly until I ran it out of gas. Now will not fire for more than a second or two, then dies. Have to let fuel pressure build for about 10 seconds, then re-try. Again, will fire and die right away. Full tank of gas now. Turned over Far too many times for air to be in the lines (at least i'd think so). Fuel pump is loud, however fifth injector seems to be getting fuel so again, id assume the rest of the injectors are as well. Anyone ever run into something like this??.

not on VW, but ran my old Mazda b2200 really low on gas once and it sucked up a bunch of sediment from tank and plugged fuel filter.

I would think your fuel filter is plugged. If it's building pressure but then stalling out, I would think that there is not enough flow going through the filter.

I would put a new fuel filter in then pull the injectors, throw them in coke bottles and check the pressure and flow. Check to see if you are getting even pressure to all the cylinders that way.

fuel filter changed. Anyone know what these things need to run on as fas a fuel pressure??. Ive been told its quite high - that being said, any easy way to test fuel pressure?. Im wondering if the pump is just weak from age/running dry?. Injectors also could be the case. I'll pull em and see if they are flowing.

            Re: Need help!

With the pump being loud I would say that it has failed/failing
