    Re: Mk4 Buyers Guide?

You want fast or quick, there are a few of us on here that can show you what that feels like. No its not an S4, but we sure get there heart racing between 40-90 km/h when we are not as far behind as they think we should be

I've looked at a bunch of TDIs and a couple of them had coolant migration issues. Overall I'm in the same boat as you, I'm looking at what mods can be done but I want moderate gains for now. I suggest looking at a colt cam, a turbo and a tune if you want power. But I'm quite the newbie still so listen to what others have to say here, this group of people are amazing.

        Re: Mk4 Buyers Guide?

So I picked up a cable (Thanks Colin), did a scan. I have a glow plug harness issue. After little internet reading, it was suggested that I might have some corrosion in the harness. So I took the harness off reattached it, and light went away. Drove home, light came on. Scanned it again, same issue. So I think I have to actually clean it, and check the resistance of the glow plugs.

I am getting a clunking, noise when I turn at slow speeds, maneuvering in a parking lot. Internet is saying that I need new strut bushings. Thinking about getting some 034 track bushings and new strut bearings.

Put 700k's on it, driving to calgary and back to edmonton.

Regarding glow plug harness error: I had one in the past. While investigating that issue I noticed my engine fans were running all the time when the car is turned on. Turned out to be the coolant temp sensor. Changed that, CEL gone. Weird....but it was the issue at hand.

OEM Strut bushings + bearings from Natty are approx $16-17 per side for both. The control arm bushings also wear and can be replaced pretty cheap if you have a press. The parts are cheap, and if you don't have a press just ask around some have them kicking in there garage.

In terms of the harness depending on which harness you have (2 wire or 4 wire), again both should be on or under $100 from Natty, and the 4 wire is a bit cheaper.

700 km's, how much diesel approx did you use? On a 5 speed manual assuming you didn't do 140 km/h the whole way you should have 1/4-1/3 left in the tank depending on if you vented the tank.

Yeah, I have just under a 1/4 left.

But I was driving it kind of hard in the city.

I was going to send Natty a PM, regarding both the OEM strut mounts, but he can also get 034 which I was looking. As they make a stiffer version, which I think is what I want.

Got some trim pieces to start replacing the painted stuff. Just gotta find the rest of it.
