    What area are you in?

Make sure you have a rubber mallet/sledge hammer i used the sledge to get my old strut out of the spindle. get some spring compressors from autovalue/canadian tire for the passenger side.

    EDIT:

Since I read the second line in your post, 18x10 is going to be interesting, whats the offset? you are going to need some pretty good stretch as well as rolled fenders and pulled fender liners.

OK i never get those and not to bag on you but why do people buy rims they are going to be hard to fit or may not fit at all? It is not like you are going to gain much from going from an 8" to a 10" tire other then headaches, let alone the tire damage from rubbing on anything and everything around it.

As to installing coilovers, that is pretty easy other then getting the dang passenger side strut out, those are always a pain. I always try to coil the spring down over the perch to gain the extra needed clearance. Start with the drivers side so you can get a feel for how it goes together first. I would lend you my tools to do it but the last person lost my strut spreader and I have yet to replace it.

        A. Frontwheel drive. Wide wheels/wide tires up front = traction. That and Hella mad stance steeze.
        B. Passenger side is a b*tch. Strut spreader tool can be purchased at Concept-1 and is a pretty good investment if you dont have a sledge.

Im in Pineridge, NE in Calgary. Alright haha do i also need the little strut spreader?

Edit: okay, I'll get that strut spreader

Yeah 18x10 is a little sketchy to me, it's got +30 offset. I love the look, but I mean if its too much work than I'll just forget about it.

Saw that after, I'm hopped on nyquil trying to get over a cold.

debatable. It can be done by all means the name of the game is how much are you willing to spend to do it.

Hahaha its all good Colin. Yeah that's the thing, I'm not made of money. I was just hoping it would be some rolling and pulling with spacers, but it doesn't look like it.

Well if you are willing to be rubbing the paint off your fenders and having just a close match in paint it can be done. i doubt you will need spacers. but hard to say, do you have the wheels or are you just looking?

Thanks for the info though! I will definitely start with the driver's side.

                      Re: mk4 stance/coilover/fitted help

You may or may not need a strut spreader. On my black MKIV the strut popped out fine. On the silver one it was all rusted in. I was able to make a ghetto spreader with some clever thinking and had it out quite quickly. Also, some DIY's suggest dropping the subframe to get the passenger side out/in. Totally unnecessary. Get a long 4x4 and place it up against the strut like /, start hitting the bottom of the 4x4 to push the strut upwards to create the couple mm's necessary to pop the strut out.

                        traction?
chances are he would have to stretch tires on them, so i dont think theres much traction to gain...

i have 9's on my car, and they rubbed like a ***** on my rear fenders HORRIBLY.
it looked nice, but was a HUGE pain in the ass, and it, and it drove like ****.
so its all about, the "look" you are trying to achieve.

His ET are a lot less than yours are and he may have the helper springs out as well to raise the adjusting collars so they dont rub on the wheels for extra clearance.

Smart moveā€¦ that stance would be more hassle than it's worth IMO. I roll 19x8.5's in the summer, 30 offset, and with 15mm spacers out back they do poke a bit - so with an average wind down on the coils they rub when I hit dips in the road at speed. I can't imagine and extra inch without fender work.
