    Re: Fender rolling

Any shop will do it, it's just a matter of how much it will cost.

Actually I have asked around a bit and no one says they will. Cosmos for one turned me down.

Very difficult for ANY technician to guarantee results without also being held responsible for the potential of major paint crackage.

I used a length of PVC to do mine. Worked like a charm but I eventually took the fender off and pinched them flat with a rubber mallet then laid some seam sealer. I will be doing the same with the GLI in the next few weeks.

Are we talking PULLING or rolling? If we are pulling, paint is no question, rolling, paint is still no question, no tech wants to be responsible for it though.

Do you run a fender liner? how does it work with the edge pinched flat?

                  Re: Fender rolling

I had Marenello's roll my MK3s fenders back in the day but they could not guarantee the paint would not crack, back turned out great but front was a bit cracked. The older the paint the harder this is as well.

Apparently Screaming Paintworks will do it as well.. not sure what they charge.

This is actually the only place that I have found that said they MIGHT shave my rubstrips. I think I will contact them once again and see what they can do.

A buddy of mine who used to work at Concept 1(Dale) told me just to cut the fender inner lip out and file it down...problem solved. I'm kind of on the fence, any thoughts?

                        Re: Fender rolling

The benefit of folding it is then your lip has some reinforcement so it doesn't get bent on any little thing.

again, how does the fender liner work if the lip is folded completly flat? if it normally rests behind the lip.

Still worked fine. If you ran your hand back there it was hanging down a bit but I only ran them in the winter.
