  • Which VW dealership do you get serviced at?

Which VW Dealership you guys go to or went to for service and warranty work?

I know most avoid the dealerships here but my .:R is CPO until 70k miles or some time in 2013, so I might as well make the best of it while I can.

Never dealt with any VW dealership in Calgary but I have read stories and I already know to stay away from Northland VW .

Also, if I provide my own oil to the dealership will they be okay with using that instead of the ones they stock?

    Thanks

5th ave Autohaus. Only dealership I will take my .:R to for any work (if I need to take it to a dealership). Not sure about the oil though.

Is there a specific contact you can recommend at 5th ave Autohaus or have you received the same service from everyone there?

PM Derek (GINCH). He works at 5th Ave (not in the service department), but i'm sure he can give you a name or general recommendation.

5th ave, hands down, avoid Northland and Southcenter at all costs.

                *Update*

Got my car serviced yesterday at 5th Ave and it was very smooth. It was my first experience with a VW dealership and I'm very pleased.

I'd like to give thanks to those who recommended 5th Ave, Derek/GINCH for putting in a few words to Malstrom and Malstrom for providing me with excellent and informative customer service.

Things I got done yesterday were:
Oil change (provided my own oil)
                Replaced driver side bulb
                New front wipers
Put in a parts order for TSB 570815 (listed as Bulletin #2014599) for ice build up in the door jams

Re: Which VW dealership do you get serviced at?

For my old VW, I go to George at Tunedub, and for the one under warranty I go to South Centre as is near my office. Charlene (service advisor) at SCFC is pretty friendly and helpful. My car spent more time in their shop than it should have, but they made handled the inconvenience professionally.

I use Northland as its closest to my house or Tunedub.

How long have you been going to Northland for?

My brother's GTI is due for his first service and he is undecided on driving all the way to 5th Ave or just drive 10 mins to Northland.

I avoided Northland based on previous threads and reviews but if they've somehow changed I could live with letting my brother take his GTI there instead of forcing him to take it to 5th Ave haha.

Re: Which VW dealership do you get serviced at?

Even though I've never been to southcentre and only talked to the used sales reps at northland VW, I personally wouldn't recommend 5th Ave after my last visit there. I've had my car serviced there 3-4 times because I used to work at the Calgary Herald and now work at CHEP in the foothills industrial area. If you can get a ride from someone, and you're willing to wait 2-3 weeks, I'd HIGHLY recommend tunedub over any other place. George is the man!

I wasn't getting heat in my cabin and this was when it was first getting cold (so back in October or so?). So I booked my Jetta in to get a diagnosis to find out exactly what was wrong with it (hoping I could fix it myself). I was told that I just had a loose wire behind the temperature nob in my HVAC system and that everything was fixed. I paid the $130 some dollars that I owed and drove away happy that I finally have heat again (didn't have heat for about a week). I barely reached the Radisson hotel and I didn't have heat again! Quickly, I pulled U-turn (not really ha) and went back to 5th Ave auto but lone behold the service side was closed already. I waited until the next morning and called at 8am to book another appointment and to inform them of what has happened. I wasn't able to book my vehicle in until the next week and I thought this would work perfectly since I had to go to Edmonton for work for 2 days. Upon leaving my Jetta at 5th ave the second time, I asked if it was ok that I left my Jetta there overnight because I'll be in Edmonton and won't be able to pick it up until 2 days later. After my first day of work in Edmonton, I never received a call from 5th ave. I didn't think much about it until around noon the second day and I had begun my trek back to Calgary. I called the service rep that had helped me and gave me his card. I wasn't able to reach him and left him a voice mail. Approximately two hours later I get a call back saying they just pulled my car into the garage to look at it and the so call 'loose wire' has to be replaced this time for a $10 fee (which I was fine with). BUT! They have to charge me a 1 hour labour fee (another $130). I asked why am I getting charged again for something that was technically fixed the first time... and all I got was 'because it takes about a hour to get to the HVAC wire that needed to be replaced. With me being about 30 minutes outside of Calgary with all of this happening I said screw it, just replace it cause I'm getting charged $130 either way. Upon picking up my car the second time the service rep mentioned that he understood how this all looks and all and next time I need to get something serviced to go to him and that he'll 'hook me up'. What the deuce is that suppose to mean?! Since when can dealerships 'hook you up'??

And just to top this story off, I thought I'd take a little walk into the showroom and check out a new Jetta. I had been having a lot of mechanical problems with my 2002 1.8T Jetta that I just had to stop the bleeding financially and needed something more reliable. Once I entered, I was greeted very nicely by a sales rep. We sat down and started discussing options and what not I'd like in the vehicle so I could get a estimate. Once I was given the estimates, we started discussing my current Jetta. He asked if I wanted to trade it in and I told him that I couldn't because it has a rebuilt status and that I'd have to sell it privately. He gave me a glare, looked back at his monitor and told me 'come back when you're more of a serious buyer'. Am I wrong to take this offensively?

All in all, I was waiting for VW to call me to get the survey done on how I was treated customer service wise. I still haven't received that call from VW to this day, surprise, surprise.

Since then, I've sold my Jetta and bought an Audi. Guess we'll have to wait and see to see how the Audi dealership customer service is eh? lol

I apologize for sorta high jacking your thread but I had to finally tell you guys about this.

                              Cheers!
