Hoping you guys could give me some input on the best front sway bar. I'm gonna be running the Neuspeed 28mm bar in the rear and was going to get the Neuspeed 25mm for the front. But from what I've seen on the Vortex, most people seem to be running a 22mm front sway (either ABD or otherwise). What front sway bars is everyone else running?? I'm a little worried that the 25mm will be a bit harsh. I'm also worried about squeaking and the ease of re-lubrication on the front sway. My other option is to stick with the Neuspeed 28mm rear, and add an H&R 22mm front sway. Any suggestions or experiences appreciated.

Re: Let's Talk Swaybars......
Unless you have specific handling requirements, or you are lowering more than the stock bar can clear, it's not needed. If just for lowering clearance, use the same size. Putting a front and rear bar cancel each other out. The whole point of the rear bar is to get rid of some of the understeer - by using a bigger front sway you are making it worse.

Re: Let's Talk Swaybars......
I'm with Khyron -- I've got a wolfsburg, so my stock front sway is a tad bigger than a 'regular' VW's, but I definitely wouldn't upgrade it to something bigger! I put an autotech rear sway on in the summer, and it's fantastic. Understeer is pretty much eliminated.1.8T

Re: Let's Talk Swaybars......
The larger diameter front cancelling the effects of the rear was my initial assumption as well. But I've talked with two very reliable sources and friends in the industry who tell me this is largely a misconception. Since the rear bar is still larger than the front, and both bars are firmer than the stocks, I'm told the 25mm/28mm setup works and there is supposedly more gains in handling with this combo. That's why I was hoping someone who might be running this setup could chime in. I've driven Mk4's with a 22mm front/28mm rear setup before and agree completely that the handling is greatly improved though. I just hate buying something that I can't get direct feedback from users about. Thanks for the input so farDerick

Re: Let's Talk Swaybars......
I am running 25mm front, and 28mm rear. I noticed huge difference with the rear, but not much with the front. The only reason I ponied up the cash for the front bar was so I didnt have to hear that nasty metal on metal scraping sound when I hit a small bump, or took corners hard. I had the rear first, and installing the front didn't cancel out the rear at all.Last edited by Mr. Burns; 12-30-2003, 09:46 AM.

Re: Let's Talk Swaybars......
I dunno man - there is already a stock bar in the front. It's math - if you increase it's diameter, it will increase understeer. Reduce it or keep it the same but increase the rear size, you decrease understeer. And technically if you want handling increase you should not lower your car at all (ideal handling level is actually a raise) - that's why the shine kits etc don't drop.

Re: Let's Talk Swaybars......
Ryan, just curious have you ever looked under there to see if there are any signs of slight rubbing? I'm wondering if all rubbing associated with the front sway is audible or not. Maybe it occurs but just can't be heard?? As for the money saved, that would be cool to pocket the extra cash if nothing rubbed, but there's some really good deals with front and rear sways going on right now. North American Motorports has Neuspeed for $199 US.Derick

Re: Let's Talk Swaybars......
hrmm.. never actually checked derick.. mike told me on his GLI he could hear it rub and it sounded bad but i've never heard any peep from up there even when i turn my wheels full or do a hard corner or hit bumpies,etc.. i'll have a look sometime this week if it warms up so i can park my car on a sidewalk or something to creep under it enough.. or can you see if you turn the wheel?
