  • Radar Jamming Radar Detectors?

A bunch of companies now offer radar detectors that are also jammers. I believe that they are legal- there is no regulation for jamming the "laser" radar, and they use some kind of non-broadcast mechanism to jam regular radar.

Does anyone know anything about these products or have you read any reviews? It seems to me like any kind of jamming is going to be much, much, much better than just a radar detector. Especially since most radar setups are at close range or in places (curves, hills) where you cannot see or detect them in time.

FYI: I do not approve of speeding

From what I know about jammers they broadcast on the same frequency in order to skew the signals they recieve, they will think you are going like 400 kmh lol. But I have no idea how a non broadcast one would work.

After some reading I answered my own question, all of the independant tests seem to indicate that they don't work or work only at extreme ranges that will not help you in an actual speed-trap scenario.

      Ah well.

Yeah I read about that one. Police often aim at license plates because it is a flat light metal surface and reflects radar well. This type only blocks radar if aimed right at your front plate. When they asked the police about this jammer in one study, they responded that often its normal for them not to get a signal off of the plate, and they just aim it a little higher/lower the second try. So at most this buys you a little time to slow down.

However, in Alberta we don't have front plates.

This site may give you some answers about Radar/Laser Jammers

That is the most biased site ever, its a well known fact they are 'sponsored' by the passport, note how they rage at probably the best radar detector out there, the Valentine 1

I have a super strange roll of material at my shop that was sent to me by a company (i can't mention name) that is U.S. military based and its a "skin" used on covert attack vehicles. For $10,000. I'll cover your car in this crap.

                  Re: Radar Jamming Radar Detectors?

About 8-10 years ago some domestic car (Sunbird, or something) came with a factory nose bra. It was recalled a few months later because it absorbed radar and made it really hard to clock. Of course since the reason was on the recall notice, no one returned them.

Could be BS (it was sooo long ago) but it's interesting.
