  • Which gas and issues.

Okay well even after the green coolant sensor I still get a jumpy idle but only with petro can 91!!! this really pisses me off since they are close i have petro points and all.. when i do the mohawk 94 my idle is solid..
Anybody else get this behavior? strange part is with the petro 91 it jumps only when i'm 1/2 a tank and lower which is stupid as hell..

What causes it? In my car, it feels like a fan or pump is kicking on. It feels like either the cooling fan or pollution pump. I only notice it at idle.

I usually use Esso, then Mohawk, then Shell.

Have been using Centex 91 from day 1 and no issues whatsoever. Hood gas...? ...perhaps... But if you ask me, it's pretty much all the same sh*t. Just different branding really. Unless you're driving a heavily modded dub... I doubt your car will even notice the difference. And if so, well... it sucks to be you then doesn't it!

        Re: Which gas and issues.

People on vortex have tried many times to solve the idle issue.

        It ranges from:

        1) O2 sensors
        2) Faulty/bad/dirty maf
        3) Dirty throttle body: This one was new on vortex and people have been getting some stable idle's with the cleaning of the throttle body.
        4) Coolant sensor

        I still get jump idles.

Every gas station will have shitty gas once in a while, but I would love to have 94 octane everywhere so we can re-program to higher octane settings =) We live in Alberta damn it, give us higher octane everywhere!!!!!!!!!

Unless my issue is diff than everyone elses, I can't see it being any of those b/c I've had the idle thing from day 1. The demo vehicle I test drove w/ only about 150 km or so also had the same idle thing going on. I think it's something inherent with the design of the car. I dunno tho...

Dude they all do that - I read what it was once - alt or rad - I forget but it takes more draw so the idle blips to catch up, sorta like letting the clutch grab for a sec and releasing it.

It's just coincidence that you notice it with the Petro gas - you won't notice it when you are in motion. Btw I use Safeway gas - cheap cheap cheap for premium.

What is this "idle" problem you guys are refering to? Can't say I've ever had it. I've always used Petro 91 BTW

I could see it being possibly one of those or the rad fan drawing too much, too quickly. It does feel like the engine bogging down from something with a clutch. I seem to notice it more on the warmer days. It would also make sense that this occurs a idle as the fan would normally kick on to move warm dead air. Its still a mystery to me.

                    Re: Which gas and issues.

derek its like this your sitting at a light and your idle goes from well 750 or whatever down to 600 then backup to to 750 and sometimes it does this like 5 times at a light and with an exhaust on you totally here it and it sounds like my car is sputtering or i'm revving at an old lady haha from my reading on vortex though nobody has an answer and pretty much 90% of the cars do it..

When you are sitting at a light, flip your AC on full power - it will do the blip thing. You should see when the fan kicks in on my bike - it's like "holy wtf was that".

yea geoff i now its something with power for sure because i did it this summer with doing stuff like AC, stereo and it would blip but i think petros gas has something funny in in because its the only gas that makes my car do it... but the car runs fine otherwise with it.. oh well i guess i'll live with it until i can rack in my petro points for something usefull
