Found a set of wheels for a killer deal... but they are 5x114.3

Due to rebuilding the wheels to the spec's I want, do I need to drill them to run wobble bolts or will I not have to do anything and just run the wobbles

tearing the wheels apart once I pick them up and dropping the barrels off to get powder coated

also if I need to get them re-drilled to 5x112 where is the best place in town?

This is kinda a quick and dirty way around it, but you can buy a 14mm-12mm stud conversion and the wheels will work. Not the best way of doing it, but it works!
Conversions are around $50.. check out Ringer Racing or AJ Racing. This will also give you the ability to use the colorful ricer lug nuts too!

the bolts will be hidden by the center cap.

but you might be onto something. wouldn't mind doing the conversion

Stud conversion is a must have either way.. makes changing wheels so much easier, especially for $50!

          Re: wobble bolts

Some more information is needed in the OP post. The rims are 5 x 114.3 What is the hub spec? 5 X 112?

Yes stud conversions are nice to have but if I understand the OP's post correctly, it's the bolt circle diameter (BCD) that is the concern. A stud conversion achieves a smaller bolt diameter but the BCD would still be the same.

Wobble bolts are used for slight changes in BCD & are good for 2mm in either direction. Therefore going from 5 X 114.3 to 5 x 112can be done with wobble bolts.

Let me know if you have any questions.

            Re: wobble bolts

When the studs go 2mm narrower, the same result can also be achieved. Its by no means the perfect solution, but it does work.

              Re: wobble bolts

I see what your saying. Yes it may work but that possability of getting an unbalanced wheel is that much greater. The taper seat or ball seat would not mate correctly onto the rim is my concern. It would not be concentric and the chances are greater that the wheel may not mount flush to the hub. A wobble bolt gives a better chance but is not perfect either. Personally if it was me, I would have them redrilled.

                    Re: wobble bolts

so you would rather put more holes in your wheels and spend more money?

Get studs that go from 14mm to 12mm. then get wobble lugnuts. Thats what we ran on the rabbit with the bbs's for 2.5 years without a single issue.

                      Re: wobble bolts

Wobble bolts will work fine, just buy good ones with good hubcentric rings. This was with 14mm bolts. (with according holes in wheels, if small holes in wheels then use Jeff's recommendation)

I had no drilling to do, just bolt up and go.

I ran this with no issues at all

drill them, them you can say they're lighter than stock, since it's rotating mass it will make a greater difference.

                            Re: wobble bolts

Got my wheels re-drilled at Alberta Wheel, only place in Calgary that I know can do it. Deep face? Don't do it, they will mar the **** out of the lug holes with the CNC/drill presses they use. Alberta Wheel does it proper and not just adding 5 extra holes to the wheels but their "attention to detail" skills are a little less important it seems so tape up delicate spots yourself or reconsider your options depending on the value of the wheels.

Oh and it isn't cheap, 4 wheels was $600-700.

I also ran wobble bolts, but the guys are correct, 2mm of movement, so you would have to do a 12mm conversion, 14mm holes with wobble bolts, sounds like a recipe of disaster to me and I personally would never do it but hey, if you want to do it all the power to you

The best option, if you can find a way to reassemble them with what you have barrel wise, is get a set of bolt on conversion spacers to convert from 5x114.3 to 5x112 and go nuts. Need approx 20mm of room for them but that is 100% your safest bet, and probably the cheapest next to the 12mm stud method.
